TrueNorth Companies, L.C. in Cedar Rapids, IA invites energetic students to join its 11-week paid Business Development Internship this summer. You will rotate through Transportation, Risk Management, and Employee Benefits while learning how to tailor insurance solutions.

This on-site program runs May 17 through July 30, 2027. Housing is provided if you need it, and you will gain hands-on experience, build AI skills, and develop relationships with internal teams.

Qualifications

• Freshman or Sophomore pursuing education in business, marketing, finance, risk management or insurance.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Excel.

Responsibilities

• Rotate through Transportation, Risk Management, and Employee Benefits to learn the practices.
• Interact with clients to understand needs and contribute to tailored insurance solutions.
• Meet project deadlines with your Leader and organize work.
• Maintain confidential client and company information.
• Build relationships with internal teams and internship class.
• Assist in managing policies, endorsements, renewals, and claims processing.
• Make outbound calls from supplied lists.
• Prepare reports and presentations for stakeholders.

Our internship program is an 11-week paid program, running May 17th – July 30th 2027. This position will be fully on site in our Cedar Rapids, IA office. Housing will be provided for those who do not have housing for the summer months in Cedar Rapids.

As a Business Development Intern, You Will:

• Rotate through Transportation, Risk Management, and Employee Benefits to learn the nuances of our practices
• Collaborate with our sales and service teams to interact with clients, understand their needs, and contribute to providing tailored insurance solutions
• Meet project deadlines as set between you and your Leader
• Organize time in advance so all work and projects are completed on time and with appropriate content and organization
• Maintain confidentiality of client and company information
• Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams and internship class
• Gain hands‑on experience in managing policies, endorsements, renewals, and assisting in claims processing
• Make outbound calls from supplied call lists
• Aid in the preparation of divisional meetings and trainings
• Actively engage in workshops and training sessions to enhance your skills and industry knowledge
• Assist in maintaining accurate client records, policy documentation, and other critical data
• Contribute to market analysis and research projects, providing valuable insights for informed decision‑making
• Prepare reports and presentations to communicate project updates, findings, and recommendations to internal stakeholders around data pulled from our systems
• Perform other duties as assigned

Education, Experience, & Skills:

• Must be of Freshman or Sophomore status, currently pursuing education in business, marketing, finance, risk management or insurance related field is preferred
• Familiarity in Microsoft Office Suite; specifically, Excel
• Ideal candidate will have a genuine interest in the insurance industry
• Mustbe comfortable with technology, including Teams and Outlook
