SCOPE OF POSITION:
The job of the Sailing Camp Director is to ensure the smooth operation of all aspects of the Sailing Camp. The director supervises the sailing staff, which includes sailing instructors and counseling staff.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Supervisory experience
- Certified US Sailing Small Boat Level 1 Instructor or equivalent
- Powerboat driving experience with valid Washington or Oregon State boater's card
- Minimum two years sailing experience
- Strong sailing skills and ability to instruct students
- Technical knowledge of sailing
- Prior teaching experience preferred
- Experience with 420 sailboats or similar dinghies
- Responsible, reliable, enthusiastic, with good judgment and leadership skills
- First Aid and CPR certification
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently
- Ability to interact effectively with diverse populations
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee the Summer Residential Sailing Camp program
- Participate in planning and implementing programming aligned with the camp's mission
- Schedule and coordinate with camp staff
- Supervise sailing and counseling staff
- Create and maintain staff morale and scheduling
- Develop and supervise sailing activities
- Ensure safety and educational quality for campers on land and water
- Instruct youth sailors of various skill levels
- Promote teamwork and support among staff
- Assist sailors with goal setting and skill development
- Develop lesson plans and practice schedules
- Make safety decisions based on weather and water conditions
- Manage equipment and boat maintenance
- Evaluate student progress
- Maintain communication with all stakeholders
- Act as a role model demonstrating Christ-like behavior
- Ensure boat fleet readiness and safety
- Perform safety and maintenance tasks
- Other duties as assigned
GENERAL DUTIES:
- Exhibit Christ-like conduct and service
- Support the overall camp program
- Participate in camp activities and meetings
- Follow policies and maintain personal and camp cleanliness
- Assist in camp cleanup activities
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist
- Operate equipment and perform janitorial tasks
- Lift up to 25 lbs.
- Understand verbal and written instructions
