Job summary

The Whatnot Safety XP team is seeking a Software Engineer to design and build systems that protect the platform in real time. You will tackle complex global regulation, build detection pipelines, and collaborate with leadership to deliver impact across all surfaces.

You’ll own diverse problems, work across platforms, and help evolve defenses with data-driven approaches, autonomy, and high integrity in a fast-moving environment.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of total software engineering experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Economics, a related technical field, or equivalent work experience.
• Business intuition and data-driven mindset; knowledge of data science or machine-learning is a plus.
• Autonomy to lead initiatives across multiple product areas and communicate findings to leadership.
• Comfort with data warehouses and tools like Snowflake, dbt, Dagster.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop systems to protect the platform: build production algorithms and infrastructure to mitigate risks.
• Balance risk and user experience by ensuring protections add value with minimal friction.
• Respond in real time to threats with event-driven pipelines and detection frameworks.
• Contribute across the full development lifecycle: ideation, prototyping, testing, deployment, monitoring.
• Drive cross-team initiatives and surface insights to leadership via dashboards and documentation.
• Continuously evolve defenses by staying ahead of abuse patterns and iterating quickly.

Education
