Job summary

CHS Inc. offers a Safety Specialist/Industrial Hygienist Intern position at the Laurel, MT refinery for Summer 2027. The intern will work with Health & Safety staff to enhance regulatory compliance programs related to governmental acts and programs.

The role involves hazard identification, data analysis, team collaboration, and communication across CHS units. A sophomore/junior in Safety & Health with GPA 2.6+ is required, with a 3.0+ GPA and prior oil/gas internship preferred.

Qualifications

• Sophomore or junior year in Occupational Safety and Health with GPA ≥2.6.
• GPA of 3.0 or better preferred.
• Previous internship or work experience in the oil and gas industry.

Responsibilities

• Assist in hazard recognition through identifying and resolving basic safety issues.
• Utilize computer systems and spreadsheets to analyze, monitor and track safety systems.
• Analyze data and provide comprehensive reports.
• Function as part of a team in all aspects of the refinery safety department.
• Interact effectively with management, employees, union personnel and contractors while building relationships.
• Communicate across CHS business units to share concepts and implementation strategies.
• Plan, organize and prioritize safety related issues impacting employees and contractors.
• Participate in safety meetings and occasionally present safety topics.

Minimum Qualifications (required)

• Completion of your sophomore or junior year in Occupational Safety and Health or similar related field in an accredited program with a cumulative GPA of 2.6 or better.

Additional Qualifications

• A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.
• Previous internship or work experience in the oil and gas industry.

Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications, minimum wage/salary requirements under local law.
