Job summary

Lubrizol Corporation in Ohio is seeking a Safety Specialist to work with plant teams, reduce risk, and support safe operations. You will lead incident investigations, develop training, review JSAs, and apply OSHA/NFPA/NIOSH standards. This role combines field work and program management in a hybrid environment.

Preferred candidates have a bachelor’s in safety or engineering, 3+ years in health and safety, and strong communication and MS Office skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Environmental, Engineering, or related field.
• 3+ years of Health & Safety experience (internships, co-ops, or full-time roles).
• Strong communication and Microsoft Office skills (Excel & PowerPoint).
• Highly motivated, collaborative, and able to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Build strong working relationships with plant employees and contractors, serving as a trusted safety partner.
• Identify hazards, assess risk, and recommend practical controls to support continuous improvement.
• Apply OSHA, NFPA, NIOSH, and internal requirements to real-world plant situations.
• Support and maintain key safety programs (e.g., Fall Protection, HazCom, Contractor Safety, LOTO, Confined Space, Electrical Safety).
• Lead incident investigations, determine root causes, and drive corrective and preventive actions.
• Develop and deliver safety training materials, communications, and documentation.
• Review, develop, and improve Job Safety Analyses (JSAs).
• Conduct field assessments and behavioral observations to understand how work is performed and support safe solutions.
• Utilize HSES systems and reporting tools to track performance and analyze safety trends.
• Assist with Industrial Hygiene activities and other cross-functional safety initiatives as needed

• Experience in a chemical manufacturing environment
• Knowledge of chemical processing or maintenance activities
• GSP designation or CSP certification
