The City of New York is seeking a City Research Scientist to manage health and safety tasks under the Occupational Safety and Health office. This role encompasses conducting inspections, developing safety procedures, and providing guidance on safety issues. Candidates should possess a master's degree or higher in relevant fields and have a strong grasp of occupational safety regulations. The position not only aims to ensure compliance but also to foster a safer workplace through effective training and policy development.
Under the direction of the Director of the Occupational Safety and Health office, the selected candidate will perform various safety and health tasks. Specific tasks include, but are not limited to:
City Research Scientist - 21744
For Assignment Level I: A master's degree in physical, biological, environmental sciences, or public health from an accredited institution.
For Assignment Level II and above: A doctorate degree with relevant experience, or a master's degree with additional research experience, or equivalent education and experience. All candidates must have at least a master's degree and relevant experience. Two years as a City Research Scientist Level I can substitute for some experience requirements.
Note: Appointments are subject to a minimum one-year probationary period.
The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable of occupational safety and health regulations, possess excellent communication and organizational skills, be familiar with Microsoft Office, and be able to wear PPE. A valid driver’s license in New York State is preferred. Special safety projects may occur as needed.
