About The Role

The Safety & Training Specialist position is responsible for providing field safety support and training to West Region team members within a defined geographic area. The role involves performing safety observations, coaching on hazard identification, risk reduction, and work methods. The specialist also leads safety investigations and collaborates with operational supervision to develop best practices and corrective actions to reduce risk and human error.

Key Responsibilities

  2. Provide field safety support through observations, audits, inspections, and safety issue clarifications.
  3. Serve as a safety expert for distribution-related activities, including overhead and underground systems, street lighting, and secondary-voltage connections.
  4. Conduct safety observations, identify hazards, investigate work methods, and ensure OSHA and company compliance, making recommendations accordingly.
  5. Analyze safety data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  6. Interpret and apply safety rules and federal OSHA and FMSCA regulations.
  7. Coach personnel on hazard identification and risk mitigation strategies.
  8. Lead incident reviews and investigations, providing detailed reports with findings and preventive recommendations.
  9. Assess training needs and develop/deliver safety and skills training programs, including OSHA regulations and injury prevention.
  10. Design and oversee inspection programs for compliance with OSHA, state, and federal laws.
  11. Coordinate procurement of safety materials and manage vendor contracts.
  12. Instruct and coordinate safety and compliance training sessions.
  13. Manage equipment testing, changeouts, and replacements.
  14. Assist supervisors in evaluating skill levels and creating development programs.
Key Qualifications
  1. Knowledge of distribution power systems, construction, and work procedures.
  2. Understanding of energized work methods and switching/tagging protocols.
  3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and mobile applications.
  4. Strong organizational and project management skills.
  5. Familiarity with B&B Transmission & Distribution Safety Rules and operational procedures.
  6. Ability to work effectively in a team and communicate across all levels of staff.
Nice-To-Haves
  • 8+ years in electrical utility industry.
  • 3+ years in occupational safety.
  • Relevant safety certifications and training.
Additional Information

This role involves exposure to environmental hazards such as fumes, mechanical parts, and noise at construction sites. Physical demands include occasional lifting up to 25 pounds and mobility requirements for fieldwork. The position is full-time, generally Monday to Friday, with possible long hours, weekend work, and travel, including overnight stays, especially during emergencies like storms.
