Job summary

SkyChefs in Des Plaines, IL is seeking a Safety Specialist to support ramp safety, ensure SOP compliance, and maintain training records. This on-site role focuses on keeping people and operations safe while meeting regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate has a High School Diploma or equivalent, a valid driver's license, and 3–5 years of safety experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook is preferred, with flexibility to work nights and weekends as operations demand.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to obtain required airport badges within 30 days.
• 3–5 years of safety experience preferred; related ramp experience may substitute.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
• Ability to work with minimum supervision.
• Strong analytical, verbal, written and organizational skills.
• Detail oriented and able to work with large groups; flexible for nights/weekends.

Responsibilities

• Train drivers on SOP and re-train as needed.
• Update and maintain driver files.
• Process Port Authority/Customs identifications.
• Ensure state inspections, registrations and Insurance IDs for trucks are current.
• Ensure drivers follow A-1 Inspection procedures.
• Assist Ramp Safety Supervisor and perform clerical duties.

Role Purpose Statement At SkyChefs, safety isn't just a priority, it's our #1 focus! We're all about keeping our team and operations safe while staying compliant with all regulations. As a Safety Specialist, you'll be at the heart of our driver safety program, ensuring that SOPs are followed, compliance records are spot-on, and helping with training efforts. Main Accountabilities

• Responsible for SOP training for all new drivers and re-training of drivers
• Responsible for updating and maintaining all driver files
• Processing of all Port Authority/Customs identifications
• Ensure all State inspections, registrations and Insurance ID's for trucks are current
• Responsible for ensuring all drivers adhere to A-1 Inspection procedures
• Assist the Ramp Safety Supervisor as needed and perform other clerical duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills And Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Mus possess a valid driver's license and be able to obtain Airport SIDA badge and CBP Customs Seal within 30 days of hire
• 3-5 years of safety experience preferred; AOA ramp experience may be substituted year for year for Safety experience
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook and other computer applications
• Ability to work with minimum supervision
• Strong analytical, verbal, written, interpersonal and organizational skills
• Detail oriented
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment with large groups – must be flexible
• Open availability, ability to work nights and weekends as operations require
