Job summary

VSSI, Inc is seeking a Safety Specialist for our Chandler, AZ facility to help build and sustain a strong safety culture. You will partner with operations to implement safety programs, train staff, and enforce regulatory compliance.

The ideal candidate offers solid communication skills, detail orientation, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining thorough documentation and incident reporting.

Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities with concurrent deadlines.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • General clerical skills including light typing.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, administer, implement, and coordinate the company’s safety programs to control risks and losses.
  • Prepare and conduct safety orientations, trainings, and meetings.
  • Responsible for compliance with required training programs and record keeping.
  • Coach employees to meet the expectations with regards to the company safety program.
  • Assist in the administration and enforcement of the company substance abuse program (drug & alcohol policy).
  • Maintain liaison with outside organizations to assure information exchange and mutual assistance.
  • Conduct and document safety inspections to ensure compliance with the company’s safety & health program.
  • Assist project teams in safety management and confirm compliance with our safety requirements.
  • Attend pre-construction meetings.
  • Attend conferences, seminars, and courses to maintain continued awareness of safety programs.
  • Understand and interpret local, state, and federal regulations and statutes relative to environmental safety, employee safety, and workers’ compensation to ensure the company is compliant.
  • Assist the region in performing root cause analysis for incidents and accidents.
  • Conduct inspections and enforce adherence to laws, regulations, or company policies governing worker health and safety.
  • Inspect machinery, equipment and working conditions at construction sites to ensure compliance with occupational safety and health and regulations, other state and federal regulations governing the construction industry, and/or company practices and procedures.
  • Assist in rehabilitation of workers after accidents/injuries and ensure they return to work successfully.
  • Participate in incident management and investigation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills with ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Strong computer skills and experience with data processing using Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint.
  • Minimum two years of experience.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities with concurrent deadlines.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • General clerical skills including light typing.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s Degree (BA) or equivalent from a four‑year college or university; or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two or more years of experience in operations and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
