Location: On-Site, Los Angeles, CA
Compensation: The salary range for this position is $78,720 to $88,560. Off-scale salaries and other components of pay are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions.
Job Summary
The Safety & Security Manager provides guidance and leadership to all reporting security personnel at Meow Wolf within the exhibition. Works to promote courteous, helpful, and professional contact with employees, visitors, guests, and vendors/contractors. Coordinates with the General Manager and key Directors and Managers to ensure the highest level of guest satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, direct, and coordinate security activities to safeguard company assets, employees, guests, and visitors.
- Oversee contracted security services, conduct routine audits, and enforce adherence to regulatory requirements and company safety protocols.
- Manage vendor relationships and track key performance indicators to ensure contract security teams meet or exceed facility security standards.
- Manage scheduling for all full-time and part-time Security Officers.
- Ensure adherence to pre-approved budget and prepare justifications for over-budget spending as necessary.
- Enhance employee and guest safety through all operational procedures and deliver excellent customer service.
- Conduct physical examinations of company locations to ensure compliance with safety and security policies and requirements.
- Provide safety and security training for employees, supervisors, and managers as needed.
- Prepare reports for management outlining trends for security issues and incidents on site.
- Evaluate security procedures and protocols and make recommendations for improvement and risk reduction.
- Manage and maintain security equipment (e.g., metal detectors, two-way radios).
- Establish and maintain a progressive and empowered workforce; train, counsel, and coach security personnel; conduct performance appraisals.
- Assist in maintaining and updating emergency response procedures and conduct emergency response training exercises.
- Coordinate with local law enforcement and fire department as needed.
- Develop data for quarterly and annual audit reports on incidents, trends, staffing levels, and department budget expenses.
- Assist Senior Leadership in developing and implementing new policies and procedures.
- Manage security screening processes for employees and guests as deemed necessary.
- Coordinate with events, programming, outreach, and other departments for on-site security needs.
- Secure, screen, and manage external security vendors as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years in a leadership role within safety and security, preferably in hospitality, tourism, or related industries.
- Experience as a Safety & Security Manager or Supervisor.
- OSHA 30 – General Industry Certification.
- Proven history of creating safety policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Loss Prevention programming experience; proficiency in English (verbal and written).
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; customer service oriented with active listening.
- Excellent problem-solving and multitasking abilities; budget development experience and adherence.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
Work in a professional office environment with standard office equipment. Some roles involve indoor settings with exposure to noisy environments, strobing lights, special effects, fog machines, and enclosed spaces. Requires ability to walk, stand, climb stairs, and navigate varied elements; may require lifting up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodations available as needed.
Work Schedule and Travel
Full-time position with a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Travel not required.
