Job summary

Black Hawk College seeks an EHS and Risk Specialist to provide first level safety and risk management support to employees, students, and visitors, and assist the Risk Management department with inspections, training, and recordkeeping. Additionally, the role supports insurance, claims processing, and confidential record retention across district locations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred; in lieu, some college with three years’ risk/safety/insurance experience.
• Intermediate computer skills and experience with Excel and Teams required.
• Good written and oral communication skills required.
• Above average organizational, attention to detail, and analytical skills required.
• Absolute confidentiality of information required.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to all College locations.

Responsibilities

• Provide first level safety and risk management support district wide.
• Perform weekly to annual safety inspections with vendors, facilities, and departments.
• Assist with safety programs, trainings, and recordkeeping to ensure compliance.
• Present safety trainings and maintain employee training records.
• Assist with hazardous waste handling, audits, and corrective actions.
• Coordinate and chair the Employee Safety Committee and promote safety culture.
• Maintain confidential insurance and accident records and COI database.
• Assist with confidential record retention across the College.
