Job summary

The Safety Program Officer with the State of Connecticut, Workers' Compensation Commission in Hartford, CT works independently to help employers establish and maintain effective safety and health committees, provides training, and offers practical recommendations to improve safety and health at each worksite. The role supports statutory responsibilities under CGS 31-40v and guides committee programs.

Qualifications

• Six (6) years of experience in occupational safety and health inspections, risk management or loss control.
• College training may substitute for experience on a 15 semester hour equals 0.5 year basis, up to four years with a Bachelor’s degree.
• Master’s degree may substitute for one additional year of general experience.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates accident prevention activities in the agency.
• Conducts routine inspections for compliance with NFPA, OSHA, TJC, VA and other codes.
• Recommends corrective action for deficiencies and evaluates safety policies and guidelines.
• Develops and evaluates safety and health programs and conducts training.
• May serve as agency Fire Marshal or represent the agency at hearings.
