Job summary

Ames Construction, Inc. is seeking a Project Safety Manager to oversee safety programs and support field operations on heavy civil construction projects. You will partner with project teams, subcontractors, and clients to promote proactive safety culture and regulatory compliance.

You will lead hazard assessments, JHAs, and risk mitigation for high-risk activities such as excavation, crane operations, and concrete placement. Strong communication, leadership, and stop-work authority are essential.

Qualifications

• Must have 4+ years in construction safety leadership or management.
• Must have 4+ years supporting heavy civil construction projects.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA Construction Standards (29 CFR 1926).
• Experience leading safety programs on heavy civil or large-scale projects.
• Strong understanding of excavation, grading, utilities, earthwork, concrete structures, and heavy equipment hazards.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong leadership, coaching, and training abilities.
• Ability to recognize, assess, and mitigate jobsite hazards and risks.

Responsibilities

• Instill safety as a top priority on the jobsite.
• Monitor compliance with OSHA, client, and company safety policies.
• Conduct daily field inspections, safety audits, and jobsite observations.
• Engage in JHAs, pre-task planning, and risk mitigation activities.
• Evaluate high-risk operations and coordinate controls.
• Investigate incidents, injuries, and near-misses to identify root causes.
• Maintain safety documentation and analyze performance metrics.
• Ensure subcontractor compliance with safety requirements.
