Job summary

Ames Construction, Inc. is seeking a Project Safety Manager to implement and oversee safety programs on our heavy civil construction projects.

You will ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety standards, and foster a proactive culture of safety on site. The ideal candidate has a bachelor's degree in Safety or Construction Management, at least 3 years of safety experience in heavy civil construction, and strong communication and leadership skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety Management, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of safety experience in heavy civil construction.
  • Transportation experience preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and other applicable safety standards.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced outdoor environment.
  • Certifications such as CSP, CHST, or OSHA 30 are highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain project-specific safety plans.
  • Conduct site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Lead safety meetings, toolbox talks, and training sessions for project personnel.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and accidents; prepare detailed reports and corrective action plans.
  • Collaborate with project managers and superintendents to integrate safety into all phases of construction.
  • Maintain accurate safety documentation and records.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all safety-related matters on the project site.

Position Overview

  • Construction Site Environment - physical ability to stand, walk, crawl, bend, reach and climb. Exposed to high noise levels
  • Office Environment - extensive sitting at desk and computer; some standing, bending at the waist, stooping and reaching required; ability to lift 5-20 pounds occasionally
