Based in Portland Oregon, we work primarily in the 11 western states with regional offices in Reno, NV; Phoenix, AZ; Concord, CA; and Salt Lake City, UT.

As a Project Safety Professional, you will work on an Advanced Technology project. In this field-based role, you will work directly with project management, field supervision, and craft employees to identify hazards, support safe work planning, and reinforce Harder’s safety expectations. Work schedule and hours: 5 days a week, 10 hours per day with a start time of 5:00 a.m. Potential for weekend work and additional required shift coverage based on project needs.

At Harder, safety is integral to how we plan, communicate and execute work. This role is ideal for a field focused safety professional who communicates well, stays engaged with crews, and is willing to learn. You do not need to have all safety certifications to be considered; candidates who meet the core requirements and are willing to learn are encouraged to apply.

We offer professional development opportunities, industry-leading benefits, and the chance to work on projects that will change the built environment forever. Find out more at www.harder.com.

What you’ll be doing:

As a Project Safety Professional, you will support the application of construction safety standards, company safety requirements, and project-specific safety expectations. You will work closely with the project team and field supervision to help ensure work is planned and performed safely in the fast-paced project environment.

Project Safety Professionals at Harder perform the following daily tasks:
  • Support incident prevention efforts through field observations, job site inspections, coaching, and employee engagement
  • Conduct job walks to identify hazards, unsafe conditions, and opportunities for improvement
  • Collaborate with superintendents, foremen, and crews to support safe work planning
  • Assist with inspections of job site areas, tools, equipment, materials, and work practices
  • Support safety requirements related to fall protection, confined space, hazardous energy control, scaffolding, excavation, material handling, and hazard communication
  • Participate in incident investigations and helping gather facts, identify contributing factors, and support corrective actions
  • Assist with safety orientations, toolbox talks, and site‑specific training
  • Support development and review of Activity Hazard Analysis documents and other pre‑task planning tools
  • Assist with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) assessments and verify proper PPE use in the field
  • Communicate safety expectations clearly and professionally to field employees and supervision
  • Track safety documentation, inspections, training records, and corrective actions
  • Recommend practical solutions to correct safety concerns and reduce exposure to injury or illness
  • Perform additional safety tasks as needed
What you will need to be successful in this role:
  • Strong field presence
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with craft employees and supervision and coach others without creating unnecessary conflict
  • Good judgment and the ability to recognize when to ask questions or elevate concerns
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Practical understanding of construction work and the risks associated with field activities
  • Commitment to learning, improving, and supporting a strong safety culture
  • Working knowledge of construction safety practices and OSHA requirements
  • Ability to identify hazards and communicate corrective actions in a professional manner
  • Comfortable working in an active construction environment
  • Ability to support early start times, occasional weekends, and additional shift coverage when needed
  • Applicant must be able to meet the essential functions and physical requirements, with or without accommodation. Details are linked here: Project Safety Professional Physical Requirements & Work Environment
Education/Experience:
  • 2+ years of construction safety experience, craft construction experience with safety responsibilities, or a similar field safety role
  • OSHA 30 Construction Certification

Nice to have:
  • Experience working in industrial, mechanical, semiconductor, advanced manufacturing, or large commercial construction environments
  • Experience assisting with safety training such as orientation, fall protection, MEWP, forklift, hazard communication, or similar topics
