Job description

Safety Trainer – you will be working with our corporate safety team on training facilitation and administrative tasks at our corporate office in Phoenix, AZ. You will be responsible for corporate new‑hire safety training and site safety training programs as needed, and support the team with all administrative and document‑control tasks.

Work schedule and hours: 5 days a week, 10 hours per day with a start time of 5:00 a.m. Potential for weekend work and additional shift coverage based on project needs.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Support the application of construction safety standards, company safety requirements, and project‑specific safety expectations.
  • Work closely with the project team and field supervision to help ensure work is planned and performed safely in a fast‑paced environment.
Safety Trainers at Harder perform the following daily tasks:
  • Oversee new‑hire safety training program.
  • Provide support in incident prevention, including inspecting job sites, equipment, onsite training, investigating incidents, authoring incident reports, and providing information on safety standards and work techniques.
  • Serve as the on‑site Competent Person who performs frequent and regular inspections of the job site, materials, and equipment.
  • Oversee additional safety professionals assigned to the project.
  • Survey jobsites as applicable and provide advice and guidance to site superintendents and employees engaged in a full range of construction activities, including but not limited to confined space, hazardous energy control, fall protection, and scaffolding.
  • Investigate all incidents to determine origin, root cause, and contributing factors and assist in the preparation of written evaluation reports concerning findings.
  • Carry out safety education activities, promote safety awareness, conduct daily and weekly Toolbox Talks, and provide site‑specific training courses.
  • Consult with technical specialists and program managers about changes in work processes and proposed methods to eliminate unnecessary risks and control hazardous conditions.
  • Provide employees and managers the training necessary to recognize hazards and perform their jobs safely and effectively.
  • Develop Activity (Job) Hazard Analyses for all new major work processes or those processes that have the highest injury/illness rates.
  • Conduct Personal Protective Equipment assessments as needed.
  • Recommend appropriate measures and methods to correct safety deficiencies and investigate hazardous conditions, practices, equipment, etc., to identify and analyze the nature and severity of hazards and the possible remedial actions.
What you will need to be successful in this role:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with craft employees and supervision and coach others without creating unnecessary conflict.
  • Good judgment and the ability to recognize when to ask questions or elevate concerns.
  • Practical understanding of construction work and the risks associated with field activities.
  • Commitment to learning, improving, and supporting a strong safety culture.
  • Working knowledge of construction safety practices and OSHA requirements.
  • Ability to identify hazards and communicate corrective actions in a professional manner.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Possess professional qualifications and knowledge of fall protection systems, electrical safety, permit‑required confined spaces, excavation trenching and shoring, scaffolding, hazard communication, accident investigation and reporting.
  • Comfortable working in an active construction environment.
  • Ability to support early start times, occasional weekends, and additional shift coverage when needed.

Education / Experience:
  • 3–5 years of experience in safety.
  • 2+ years of experience as a safety instructor preferred.
  • OSHA 30‑hour certification.
  • OSHA 10‑hour certification.
  • OSHA 510 certification.
  • First Aid / CPR / AED (must be current).
  • Extensive knowledge of the State/Local, OSHA laws and regulations.
  • Additional safety certifications such as CSP, CHST, or OHST are encouraged.
  • Experience in the semiconductor or high‑tech industry preferred.
