Job summary

F.A. Wilhelm Construction is seeking a Safety Manager to lead and enforce our Safety Program across assigned projects. You will conduct toolbox talks, safety orientations, and collaborate with foremen and subcontractors to address high-risk activities. The role requires on-site presence and strong knowledge of OSHA standards.

The ideal candidate will lead incident investigations, document corrective actions, and ensure daily site inspections conform to all regulations and company policies.

Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of construction methods and OSHA standards.
  • Experience enforcing safety programs on job sites.
  • Ability to conduct safety training and toolbox talks.
  • Proven incident investigation and corrective action experience.

  • Perform daily or weekly site inspections and report findings.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses and implement corrective actions.
  • Attend owner meetings and ensure compliance with regulations.

Responsibilities


  • Manage and enforce Wilhelm’s Safety Program for assigned project(s) by identifying, eliminating, and controlling hazardous conditions.

  • Safety Training & Communication

  • Conduct weekly “Toolbox Safety Meeting” and document content and attendance.

  • Conduct Safety Orientation for new employees.

  • Advise project staff on site‑specific safety issues and guidelines.

  • Provide leadership and build working relationships with project staff and subcontractor safety representatives to ensure compliance.

  • Evaluate the need for safety training and make recommendations.

  • Educate and advise project staff on safety guidelines and policies.

  • Collaborate with foremen on means/methods for performing high‑risk activities (e.g., excavations, fall protection, heavy equipment).

  • Monitor LOTO and pipe‑testing procedures.

  • Job‑site safety management.

  • Enforce safe work practices and conditions in accordance with all State, Federal, Local regulations (including OSHA) and company policies.

  • Conduct daily and/or weekly site inspections as appropriate.

  • Attend owner meetings.

  • Record observations from inspections and complete required reports.

  • Investigate and document all accidents, incidents, and near misses.

  • Recommend and implement corrective actions.

  • Complete site walks at least 3–4 times per day.

What It Takes


  • 7+ years of safety experience in construction or a similar industry.

  • Thorough knowledge of construction methods and OSHA standards.

  • OSHA 30 certification.

  • Ability to solve difficult contract‑related technical problems requiring excellent judgment.

  • Willingness to be in the field, not behind a desk.

  • Basic working knowledge of MS Office and Windows.
