Job Title: Lead Safety Manager

My client is a leading provider of heavy civil excavation and site development services with over 40 years of experience in the Wilmington market. They specialize in complex infrastructure projects such as earthwork, utilities, grading, and site preparation for both public and private clients. The company is committed to safety, quality, and exceeding expectations.

Position Overview

The Lead Safety Manager will oversee and implement the company's safety program across all projects to ensure a safe and compliant work environment. Responsibilities include leading safety management practices, enforcing OSHA regulations, and fostering a safety-oriented culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and improve health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct site audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify hazards and ensure OSHA compliance.
  • Lead incident investigations and develop corrective actions.
  • Provide safety training, mentorship, and support to field personnel and project teams.
  • Maintain safety documentation and reports in accordance with regulations.
  • Act as the primary contact for regulatory agencies during inspections.
  • Collaborate with project teams to maintain safe job sites.
  • Track safety metrics and report trends to leadership.
  • Lead safety meetings and toolbox talks.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Construction Management, or related field (preferred).
  • At least 5 years of safety experience in heavy civil construction or related industries.
  • OSHA 30-hour certification required; safety certifications like CHST or CSP are a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations at federal, state, and local levels.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently and travel to various job sites.
