Job summary

Burpee is seeking an experienced Safety Manager to lead our safety program and help maintain a safe, compliant work environment. The role collaborates with Operations, HR, Facilities, and Leadership to address safety concerns, improve processes, and provide training and resources to employees.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of safety leadership experience in manufacturing or industrial settings, CSP certification, and strong knowledge of OSHA requirements.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of safety leadership experience in manufacturing, warehouse, or industrial settings.
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification.
• OSHA 30-Hour certification.
• Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA and general industry safety requirements.
• Experience conducting risk assessments, safety audits, JHAs, and incident investigations.

Responsibilities

• Lead Burpee's overall safety program by assessing workplace risks, identifying gaps, establishing priorities, and implementing practical solutions.
• Develop, implement, and continually improve safety policies, procedures, and standards.
• Conduct safety inspections and risk assessments; drive corrective actions for hazards.
• Develop and maintain Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) for applicable jobs and processes.
• Oversee safety programs related to forklifts, machine guarding, LOTO, PPE, ergonomics, chemical safety, and related areas.
• Lead investigations of injuries, incidents, near misses, and safety events; determine root causes and ensure corrective actions.

About the Role

Burpee is seeking an experienced Safety Manager to lead our safety program and help maintain a safe, compliant, and accountable work environment.

The Safety Manager will play a key role in identifying workplace risks, strengthening safety practices, ensuring compliance with OSHA and other applicable requirements, and promoting a culture where safety is everyone's responsibility. This position works closely with Operations, HR, Facilities, and Leadership to address safety concerns, improve processes, and provide employees with the training, resources, and support they need to work safely.

The ideal candidate brings strong safety leadership experience in a manufacturing, warehouse, or industrial environment, along with a practical, hands‑on approach to risk reduction and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Lead Burpee's overall safety program by assessing workplace risks, identifying gaps, establishing priorities, and implementing practical solutions.

Develop, implement, and continuously improve safety policies, procedures, programs, and standards.

Conduct workplace safety inspections and risk assessments and drive corrective actions to address identified hazards.

Develop and maintain Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) for applicable jobs and processes.

Oversee safety programs related to forklifts, powered equipment, machine guarding, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), PPE, ergonomics, chemical safety, and other applicable areas.

Lead investigations of workplace injuries, incidents, near misses, and other safety‑related events; identify root causes and ensure corrective actions are completed.

Ensure required safety training, certifications, records, and documentation are accurate and up to date.

Lead emergency preparedness initiatives, including emergency response plans, drills, and the MERT program.

Maintain ongoing compliance with OSHA and other applicable safety requirements, including required recordkeeping.

Monitor safety trends and recurring concerns and use data and observations to drive continuous improvement.

Lead the Safety Committee and ensure action items are assigned, tracked, and brought to resolution.

Partner with leaders throughout Burpee to address safety concerns and strengthen accountability for safe work practices.

Work with the Facilities Manager to ensure contractors, vendors, and visitors meet applicable safety requirements.

Partner closely with HR and Leadership on safety‑related employee matters.

Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required

5+ years of safety leadership experience in a manufacturing, warehouse, industrial, or similar environment.

Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification.

OSHA 30-Hour certification.

Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification.

Strong knowledge of OSHA and general industry safety requirements.

Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, and improving safety programs.

Experience conducting risk assessments, safety audits, JHAs, and incident investigations.

Strong knowledge of manufacturing and warehouse safety practices.
