Cargomatic is a technology-driven logistics provider that connects shippers and carriers through its innovative platform. Our mission is to revolutionize the transportation industry by leveraging technology to make logistics more efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly. We are a rapidly growing company that is committed to creating a dynamic, collaborative, and inclusive workplace culture.

Cargomatic was named to the list of Built In Best Places to Work for 2023, 2024, and 2025 which recognizes the benefits we offer, our people-first culture, and our commitment to supporting our employees’ success, growth, and well-being.

We are seeking an experienced Safety & Compliance Manager to lead all aspects of safety, risk management, and regulatory compliance across Cargomatic’s operations. This role is essential in ensuring that our drivers, contractors, equipment, and facilities operate in full compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, while fostering a culture of safety across our network.

The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, and industry-specific compliance requirements, coupled with the ability to implement proactive safety programs, investigate incidents, and maintain audit-ready documentation. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to respond quickly to safety-related events—often outside standard business hours.

Responsibilities

Safety Program Leadership

  • Develop, implement, and oversee Cargomatic’s safety policies, procedures, and training programs for company drivers, owner-operators, and terminal staff.
  • Maintain compliance with all FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, and state regulations, ensuring timely filing and recordkeeping.
  • Monitor driver logs, roadside inspections, and safety-related camera events; enforce corrective action and remedial training where needed.
  • Conduct regular terminal, equipment, and route safety inspections, identifying hazards and implementing mitigations.

Incident & Compliance Management

  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and injuries, preparing thorough reports and implementing corrective actions.
  • Serve as Designated Employer Representative (DER) for all drug and alcohol testing programs, including pre-employment, random, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion testing.
  • Manage FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse requirements, including queries, reporting, and annual MIS submissions.
  • Oversee workers’ compensation claims, liaising with case managers and regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain and post OSHA 301C injury logs, and ensure all site inspections meet OSHA compliance standards.

Regulatory Reporting & Audits

  • Audit driver qualification files (DQF) and pre-approve recruits for orientation.
  • File and maintain fleet registrations, permits, IFTA reporting, and MCS-150 updates.
  • Track and report monthly/quarterly maintenance inspections, DOT equipment inspections, and chassis repair invoices for chargebacks.
  • Manage FMCSA portal data integrity and ensure accurate roadside inspection reporting.

Training & Orientation

  • Lead new hire onboarding and weekly driver/owner-operator orientation sessions.
  • Coordinate distribution of all onboarding materials, including ELD devices, dash cameras, permit books, decals, and training resources.
  • Implement monthly or quarterly online safety training for drivers and staff.

Operational Safety Support

  • Be available 24/7/365 for safety-related emergencies.
  • Provide compliance oversight for terminals without a dedicated fleet or maintenance manager, including scheduling vehicle maintenance and inspections.
  • Collaborate with insurance and legal teams on claims, litigation, and risk mitigation.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of safety and compliance management experience in trucking, drayage, or intermodal transportation.
  • Strong knowledge of FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, and related safety regulations.
  • Proven track record in accident investigation, safety training, and compliance auditing.
  • Experience managing drug and alcohol programs and FMCSA Clearinghouse compliance.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to train and influence others.
  • Ability to work extended or irregular hours, including responding to urgent safety incidents.
  • Up to 25% travel will be expected.

The expected salary range for this role is $70,000-90,000. The actual base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and other factors permitted by law. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
