MAJOR FUNCTIONS
This position is responsible for field safety leadership across Port Wilmington and supports the Mid-Atlantic Safety Director in the implementation and management of the HSE program.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Ensure Safety Policy and OSHA Compliance is adhered to daily.
  2. Implement safety policies and procedures through direct interaction and group training.
  3. Inspect work sites to ensure working conditions are compliant with OSHA standards and safety processes and procedures.
  4. Participate in regular safety and security audits on-site and coordinate corrective action feedback to Mid-Atlantic Safety Manager and operations management.
  5. Lead safety training, safety meetings, and toolbox talks as assigned.
  6. Work with terminal warehouse management and ship superintendents to ensure all safety concerns are addressed timely.
  7. Monitor the execution and effectiveness of corrective actions by working with terminal/warehouse management, ILA labor, and ship superintendents, and the appropriate regulatory organization.
  8. Participate in and lead accident and incident investigation teams as assigned, ensuring all incidents are properly reported, documented, and investigated.
  9. Maintain confidentiality of all company incident files and documentation in compliance with regulatory and company standards.
  10. Perform physical activities such as walking, standing, bending, climbing ladders, stairs, and equipment throughout shifts.
  11. Adapt to various climates and environments, including outdoor weather conditions and indoor refrigerated warehouses.
  12. Work in environments with moving objects and machinery.
  13. Work varied hours and shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  14. Complete other duties as assigned by the manager.

Quality, Health and Safety, and Environment

  • Enforce and observe all health, safety, and security protocols to protect employees and the public.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws and industry standards, and commit to continuous HSE improvement.
  • Provide leadership and personal involvement in health, safety, security, and environmental initiatives, allocating necessary resources.
  • Be willing and able to travel as needed.
  • Have reliable transportation.

MINIMUM PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Educational Background: 4-year degree preferred in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or related field.

Technical Qualifications / Certifications: OSHA certifications preferred. Must obtain and maintain TWIC credentials within 90 days of hire. Valid driver’s license required. Proficient in MS Office applications and capable of learning new software.

Related Work Experience: 3-5 years of experience in the maritime industry, with union labor management experience preferred.
