Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Occupational Health and Safety, Business Administration, Park and Recreation Administration, Industrial Engineering or equivalent.
  • Five years’ experience administering safety programs in non-manufacturing settings such as parks/recreation or natural resources.
  • Two years’ supervisory experience.
  • Specialized training in OSH management, including CSP or similar.
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred and valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement Illinois OSHA-required safety programs and district policies.
  • Lead safety-focused task analyses and inspection programs across the district.
  • Maintain Emergency Response Plan, Business Resumption Plan and Hearing Conservation Program.
  • Administer Respirator and AED plans and oversee hazardous chemical review processes.
  • Supervise/train staff and travel to sites as needed; perform physical tasks as required.

Job description

The Safety Manager is responsible for the District’s Safety Program. This includes the development and implementation of Illinois OSHA-required programs, along with District policies that align with its Risk Pool initiatives. Implements programs to enhance the safety culture. Conducts safety-focused job task analysis throughout the District. Develops and implements effective facility and equipment inspection programs, analyzes potential loss situations and makes recommendations for change. Implements the District’s Hearing Conservation Program, including annual sound level testing and audiograms. Maintains the District’s Emergency Response Plan and Business Resumption Plan. Oversees the Annual Hazardous Chemical Review process. Administers the District’s Respirator Program. Serves as the District’s AED Plan coordinator. Performs supervision, evaluation, training and recruitment of assigned staff. Drives a motorized vehicle to travel to different locations. Performs tasks that require walking, bending, stooping, standing, kneeling, climbing, reaching and sitting. Performs lifting tasks up to 25 pounds.

Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Business Administration, Park and Recreation Administration, Industrial Engineering or equivalent. Five years’ experience in the administration of safety programs in a non-manufacturing, grounds maintenance, parks and recreation, or natural resource focused industry, including identifying and measuring risk exposures, developing methods for controlling risks and preventing losses. Two years’ supervisory experience. Specialized training in the management of various safety related programs, including Principles of Occupational Safety and Health or Certified Safety Professional designation. Analytical skills necessary to evaluate and decide alternative courses of action in relation to safety situations. Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred. Must possess valid driver’s license.
