Job summary

The ideal candidate holds a bachelor's degree in a relevant field, 7+ years of experience, and CSP certification (CIH preferred).

Qualifications

• At least 7 years of progressive safety/ risk management experience with leadership.
• CSP certification required; CIH preferred.
• Strong knowledge of safety regulations and risk management.
• Proven ability to lead safety programs and drive culture of safety.

Longwood Gardens is seeking a full-time Safety Manager to lead our organization-wide safety, compliance, and risk management programs. Reporting to the Director of Security, this role serves as a key partner to leaders across the organization, advancing a culture of safety while ensuring regulatory compliance, operational readiness, and the well‑being of employees, guests, volunteers, and contractors. Responsibilities include:

• Leading the development and execution of Longwood Gardens’ safety and risk management strategy.
• Ensuring compliance with applicable safety regulations and industry’s best practices.
• Staying informed of emerging trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in occupational safety and risk management.
• Fostering a culture of safety through training, education, employee engagement, and leadership partnership.
• Oversee safety programs, audits, inspections, incident investigations, and corrective action planning.
• Supporting emergency preparedness, business continuity, and organizational resilience initiatives.
• Building relationships with regulatory agencies, industry organizations and contractors, vendors to support compliance and operational readiness.
• Monitoring safety metrics, identify trends, and provide recommendations that drive continuous improvement.
• Supporting departmental planning, budgeting, and resource management.
• Responding to emergencies and support organizational operations as needed.

The ideal candidate will possess:

• A bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
• A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in occupational safety, environmental health and safety, risk management, or a related field, including leadership experience.
• a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification required; Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification preferred.
• Strong knowledge of occupational safety regulations, compliance requirements, and risk management principles.
• Demonstrated success leading safety programs and influencing a culture of safety across an organization.
• Exceptional leadership, communication, collaboration, and problem‑solving skills.
• The ability to analyze information, make sound decisions, and effectively manage priorities in a dynamic environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related business systems.
• The ability to work flexible hours and respond to emergencies as needed.
• The ability to move through a large indoor and outdoor campus environment.
• The ability to work in a variety of environmental conditions and respond to emergency situations.
