Position

Safety Manager – Deer Park Facility

Responsibilities

• Develop, manage, and implement overall Safety and Health programs while incorporating accountability into all levels of leadership.
• Ensure safety and health principles are embedded in department operations and that annual goals include meaningful safety activities.
• Provide clarity, direction, and leadership for comprehensive management of safety and health through a team concept.
• Drive a culture of behavioral‑based safety, ensuring all plant personnel understand their accountability for personal actions and the safety of others.
• Ensure appropriate reporting and follow‑up to meet facility, corporate, federal and state compliance requirements and continuous improvement goals.
• Coordinate development, implementation and measurement of safety, industrial hygiene procedures, practices, projects and record‑keeping in compliance with all applicable codes and standards.
• Audit safety performance areas—training, record‑keeping, procedures, inspections, safety meetings, incident reporting and investigations—to determine program efficiency.
• Work with facility leadership, personnel and contractors to correct and improve performance and practices.
• Facilitate employee involvement in the safety and health system and support leadership in addressing safety‑related issues.
• Act as primary contact for all safety and health audits from Oxy and regulatory personnel.
• Represent the Deer Park PVC/KOH facility at applicable state, local and industrial community safety and health organizations and functions.
• Manage implementation of special program efforts such as the OSHA Voluntary Protection Program and other distinctive regulatory or company programs.
• Support cost‑reduction, synergy and low‑cost initiatives and approve expenditures for material and services needed to maintain a safe operation within approved levels.
• Lead the organization to zero injury, zero environmental impact and zero security incidents.
• Manage plant security activities in accordance with corporate guidelines and governmental, agency and local authority requirements.
• Participate in corporate HESS audits and company‑wide safety teams.
• Oversee emergency response activities and ensure plant personnel are properly trained and understand their roles during emergencies.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in safety or equivalent with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in a chemical manufacturing environment.
• Detailed knowledge of federal, state and local health and safety policies and regulations.
• Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to respond to off‑hour emergencies and to work weekends, holidays and on non‑routine callouts.
• Physical capability to lift approximately 40 lbs, climb ladders and stairs, walk, bend and stoop, and wear personal protective equipment including respirators.
