Job summary

Denham-Blythe Company, Inc. is seeking a Safety Manager to oversee health and safety on construction projects nationwide from our Kentucky base. You will lead safety orientations, manage site safety programs, and collaborate with project teams to integrate safety into design and execution.

The role requires at least five years of construction safety experience; CHST certification is preferred. Willingness to travel up to 25% to job sites and coordinate with site teams is essential.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate working conditions and recommend safety improvements.
  • Lead safety orientation and contractor badging on sites.
  • Facilitate daily safety meetings and toolbox talks.
  • Ensure equipment inspections and SDS documentation are maintained daily.
  • Conduct site safety audits to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with designers, project managers, and superintendents to embed safety in design and bids.
  • Review injuries and incidents and file investigations and reports.
  • Maintain safety records for all onsite subcontractors.
  • Serve as liaison to customer safety and management staff.
  • Attend progress meetings and report safety statistics weekly.
  • Travel up to 25% to jobsites, including overnight stays.

Founded in Lexington, KY in 1976, Denham-Blythe offers customers expertise in design, construction management and general construction services from offices in Kentucky, Tennessee, and South Carolina. To date, we have completed over 10,000 projects with 90% of those being with repeat clients.

The Safety Manager monitors safety and health regulations and provides technical support to Denham-Blythe jobsites to ensure compliance with federal and state regulatory agencies. Coordinates with the Safety Director to establish best practices in safety.

Essential Functions
  • Evaluates working conditions and recommends improvements in safety and health methods, practices, and procedures.
  • Responsible for project safety orientation and contractor badging when assigned project requires.
  • Participates or facilitates daily safety meetings and toolbox talks.
  • Ensures that all equipment utilized on a DB project has been inspected and documented daily prior to use.
  • Ensures that all materials utilized on the jobsite has a SDS readily available.
  • Responsible for conducting a site safety audit to ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies.
  • Responsible for working side-by-side with site superintendent to ensure jobsite compliance with all EH&S regulatory agencies, DB policies, and customer guidelines.
  • Maintains current records of all project inspections per contractor.
  • Works with designers, project managers, and superintendents to help build safety measures into the design and subcontractor bid packages.
  • Reviews all injury and noninjury incidents and prepares incident reports and conducts investigations of incidents.
  • Maintain safety records for all onsite subcontractors.
  • Acts as a liaison to customer safety and management staff.
  • Reviews all subcontractor safety documentation.
  • Attends construction progress meetings and provides safety statistics on a weekly basis (hours, safe hours, incidents).
  • Up to 25% of travel to jobsites, including overnight travel.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this project, the employee is regularly required to talk or listen and frequently required to stand or walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds. May work under extreme conditions.
