Job summary

Spanconstruction is seeking a Safety Manager to lead the development, coordination, and execution of safety programs across projects in Lebanon, Indiana. The role enforces safety standards, trains employees, and supports incident investigations.

Candidates will have a bachelor's degree in safety or related field (preferred), at least five years of construction safety experience, BCSP credentials, and willingness to obtain CHST. On-site work at project sites with travel as needed.

Qualifications

Job description

The Safety Manager is one of the most important roles in our organization. This position assists in the development, coordination, and execution of Company-wide and project-specific safety programs and works to ensure the safety of employees, subcontractors, vendors, and the public. The Safety Manager enforces the Company’s safety standards as well as local and federal safety laws and regulations. The incumbent conducts training for employees to develop safe work plans for all project phases and tasks. This position requires strong leadership skills and is the embodiment of safety as one of the Company’s Core Values.

Safety Responsibilities:

  • Prioritizes safety as the utmost importance and promotes a culture throughout the field that makes safety the primary focus for all employees at all times.
  • Fosters and enforces a behavior-based culture of safety while ensuring compliance with Federal, state, and local safety laws and regulations.

Safety Coordinator Responsibilities and Duties

  • Creates, develops, and implements safety incentive programs which reward targeted behaviors and results.
  • Ensures safety and health training meets the needs of internal and external requirements (i.e., clients and regulating entities) so our workforce has the proper training to safely perform tasks and jobs.
  • Uses a substantial amount of independent judgment and discretion to manage hazard assessment activities by (1) conducting and/or supervising safety inspections, and (2) analyzing inspection and incident data to identify opportunities to develop preventative and corrective measures.
  • Identifies opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.
  • Uses independent and advanced logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions and conclusions, and monitor results to make improvements to or take corrective action.
  • Leads incident investigations, performs root cause analyses, analyzes and reviews trends, and develops and implements corrective actions and programs across the Company basis on analysis results.
  • Reviews safety training and recommends revisions, improvements, and updates.
  • Presents and executes worksite-specific plans.
  • Consults building codes, governmental regulations, and other emergency response agencies.
  • Develops site-specific emergency evacuation plans and other ERPs.
  • Researches construction sites (e.g., reviewing blueprints, ventilation systems, lighting, materials, terrain, environment, etc.) to identify actual and potential hazards.
  • Inspects safety equipment and recommends replacements.
  • Reviews accidents and incidents reported by employees, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Conducts employee training on applicable safety standards.
  • Participates in the Company’s safety committee.
  • Builds positive and productive working relationships with clients to ensure client needs are met or exceeded.
  • Provides best-in-class customer service to internal and external clients by addressing issues, questions, or concerns in a timely and proficient manner.
  • Endeavors to stay up to date with emerging technologies and tends in the construction and safety fields.
  • Projects a positive image of the organization to employees, clients, industry, and community.
  • Maintains a “value added” approach to all aspects and phases of construction projects.

  • Performs other duties as required by circumstances or assigned by the Director of Safety.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Data Center Safety Manager – must be open to working on site and being stationed at the job site in Lebanon, Indiana for the lifecycle of the project build timeline, 24 months.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health or related field is strongly preferred but not required. Sufficient experience may be substituted for educational background.

EXPERIENCE:Must have a minimum of 5 yearsof construction safety experience.

Experience overseeing large commercial and/or industrial projects.

Strong experience with federal, state, regional, and local laws and regulations related to the construction industry.

COMPUTER & TECHNOLOGY SKILLS: Proficient with Microsoft Office products (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams).

Proficient with PC, cell phone, and Company communication tools (e.g., e-mail, internet, etc.).

Proficient with training management software and safety compliance systems (e.g., Hammertech).

Smartsheet experience is a plus but not required (training will be provided).

CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES: Must holdBCSP credentials, with STS-C or CHST preferred.Must be willing and able to obtain OSHA 500 and First Aid Certified within the first month.

Must be willing to study and work towards obtaining the Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST).

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to receive instruction and supervision.

Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred but not required.

Able to perform work at elevations in excess of 30 feet.

Able to stand, walk, climb, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs.

Exposure to outdoor environments, including extreme weather conditions.

Travel required to multiple project locations. Must be able to be insured on Company’s insurance policy as a driver for the Company.

Must wear required PPE at all times (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots, harness, etc.).

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Extensive travel by air, and vehicle. Significant work at construction jobsites, during all stages and phases, and in all types of weather conditions.

Varies between an indoor office/jobsite trailer environment with a controlled climate atmosphere and an outdoor construction jobsite atmosphere with all types of weather, loud noise, and dangerous materials. Sometimes a manufacturing or outside, public environment. Employees can be faced with working in extreme temperatures, hazards from things like lasers or welding arc, or other environmental hazards, especially those consistent with construction job sites.
