Job summary

Performance Foodservice is seeking a proactive Safety & Environmental program leader in Elizabeth, NJ. You will develop, implement and manage safety initiatives across operations to ensure compliance and uphold a secure workplace for all associates.

Responsibilities include training, policy updates, incident reduction, and collaboration with internal teams to promote a strong safety culture while handling claims and disaster preparedness as needed.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 4–6 years of occupational safety and health management or related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and administer environmental, fleet safety and occupational safety programs to ensure legal compliance.
  • Create and maintain a safe and secure working environment for associates.
  • Manage claims (property, casualty, workers’ compensation, auto liability) as part of safety operations.
  • Deliver safety training and monitor program effectiveness within budget.
  • Decrease lost days from work and OSHA-recordable incidents.
  • Advise on safety policy updates and procedural improvements.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to improve safety culture and responsiveness.

Position Purpose

Responsible for developing, implementing and/or administering environmental, fleet safety and occupational health and safety programs to ensure applicable legal compliance and create and maintain a safe and secure working environment. Also responsible for facility security and disaster preparedness planning and effective management of claims (e.g., property and casualty – workers’ compensation, auto liability and physical damage, and products/general liability). Functions as a team member within the department and organization, as required, and performs any duty assigned to best serve the company.

Responsibilities may include, but not limited to
  • Deliver safety programs within budgetary guidelines. Conduct safety training, as necessary.
  • Decrease “lost days from work” and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recordable incidents.
  • Demonstrate awareness of customer needs and perform job duties to effectively meet those needs.
  • Develop interpersonal relationships which encourage openness, candor and trust, both internally and externally.
  • Provide informative and professional assistance when working with the public/customers/vendors and coworkers.
  • Improve safety policies and procedures.
  • Monitor safety programs and implement changes necessary to ensure the health and safety of our associates.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED or Equivalent Experience
  • 4 - 6 years Occupational safety and health management or related area
Compensation

$74,900 - $107,000; bonus opportunity 30% of base salary
