Job summary

Paycom seeks a Safety Manager to direct terminal safety across office, yard and road operations. You will oversee regulatory compliance, training programs for drivers, and the accident investigation process while maintaining safety records and performance metrics.

Responsibilities include driver qualification management, onboarding orientations, and coordinating ICOA execution. A 5+ year background in safety/transportation and strong communication are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in transportation logistics or safety management.
  • Five+ years of transportation management and/or safety management experience.
  • Proficient in Word/Excel/PowerPoint.
  • Strong knowledge of FMCSR and OSHA standards and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the terminal safety management process and provide guidance to terminal operations.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal transportation and workplace safety regulations.
  • Coordinate accident investigations and oversee response.
  • Conduct audits and inspections of the transportation safety process and monitor safety performance.
  • Lead driver training, onboarding, and qualification file management.
  • Oversee and mentor the Terminal Safety Department staff.
  • Communicate effectively and manage multiple priorities, including night/weekend operations when needed.

Job description

This position directs the terminal safety management process and provides overall support and guidance to the terminal operations functions. The Safety Manager coordinates with the Terminal Manager as well as the Director of Safety in executing strategies for building and maintaining a culture of safety throughout the office, yard, and road transport operations. The Safety Manager is responsible for oversight of regulatory compliance; provides initial and on-going safety training and conducts qualification checks for both employee and contract drivers; conducts, and maintains records of, recurrent safety training for drivers and other terminal personnel; coordinates and manages the accident investigation and response process; conducts audits and inspections of the transportation safety process; and monitors statistics reflecting safety performance.Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations regarding transportation and workplace safety, including but not limited to the following:Monitoring driver applications and the selection processManages hours of service records for accuracy, violations and editsAssuring DOT drug / alcohol program is compliant with regulationsWork with owner operators to assure that required equipment specifications are in place and that maintenance and inspection records are compliant.Coordinate the accident cause determination decisions.Appropriate follow-up and documentation in dealing with preventable accidentsConduct safety training/coaching for drivers including subjects such as vehicle and driver inspections, load securement; video events; accident and incident reporting; hours of service limitations; and breakdown and road service procedures. Ensures online safety training is current.Assure driver qualification files are compliant and contain all required documentation.Schedules and coordinates onboarding orientations and ICOA execution.Manages electronic equipment inventory. Omnitracs & SmartDrive.Conducts yard walks to identify vehicle maintenance defects.Manages and collects all monthly expirable items. Update safety databases.Supervise and direct Terminal Safety Department staff.Adhere to and enforce all ethical standards by which the Company operates.Such other functions as may be assigned.Bachelors degree with emphasis in transportation logistics or safety management preferred. Five or more years of transportation management and/or safety management experience.Intermediate knowledge of Word/Excel/PowerPoint.Working knowledge of federal and state safety laws, particularly FMCSR & OSHA standards and regulations.Understand and apply meaningful operations and safety performance standards and statistical analysis.Ability to plan and execute events, safety meetings, accident review meetings, and safety celebrations.Excellent organization skills, with the ability to multitask.Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.Commitment to company values.Generally sedentary office work environment but required to frequently conduct training and inspection in warehouse, yard and shop facilities as well as on and around trailers and trucks. Some climbing on ladders and steps required. Walking, standing, bending and stretching for extended periods of time. Lifting up to 25 pounds. Must possess ability to work nights and weekends where operations require.
