Job summary

City of Houston HAS is seeking a Staff Analyst (Safety Management System) to develop, manage, and administer an FAA-compliant SMS for Houston Airport System. You will update policies, analyze safety metrics, and conduct audits to drive safety improvements.

Reporting to Assistant Director of Safety, Strategy and Innovation, you will train staff, prepare reports, and engage with regulators and carriers; the role requires establishing a safety minded culture and occasional weekend work.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field is required.
• Graduate degrees may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
• Three years of professional admin, financial, or analytical experience are required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain all aspects of a comprehensive SMS program in compliance with FAA Part 139.
• Collaborate with safety, airport operations, regulators, and stakeholders to improve safety.
• Develop policies and procedures to support the SMS.
• Track safety recommendations and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
• Conduct Safety Risk Assessments for projects, events, and policy changes.
• Investigate accidents and safety incidents and report findings with root causes.
• Provide SMS training and participate in industry meetings.
• Public speaking and lecturing on safety issues.
