Marten Transport, Ltd. seeks a Safety Lane Inspector to perform quality inspections on the tractor and trailer fleet, ensuring DOT compliance and adherence to company policies. The role emphasizes timely inspections and accurate reporting to maintain fleet safety.

You will work closely with shop and driving staff to identify issues, uphold EPA and safety standards, and ensure proper documentation and repair of identified items.

Responsibilities

• Identify DOT issues on equipment Marten operates.
• Ensure CSA violations are identified and repaired before equipment leaves facility.
• Understand the fleet equipment and maintain company standards.
• Capture and inspect all equipment at terminals during yard checks and monitoring.
• Ensure company, EPA and Safety policies meet local, state and federal standards.
• Account for all direct and indirect labor hours daily and weekly.
• Complete repair orders with labor and parts charged to the unit.
• Return unused parts to the parts room and do not abuse company tools.
• Maintain cleanliness of the work area; minimize spills, grease and debris.
• Coach and communicate effectively with shop and driving staff.
• Identify DOT issues on all equipment Marten operates.

Job description

PURPOSE

The Safety Lane Inspector furnishes quality inspections to the tractor and trailer fleet in a timely and efficient manner, while complying with Marten policy and procedure as well as DOT regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. 1. Ability to identify D.O.T. issues on any/all equipment Marten operates.
2. 2. Ensure C.S.A. violations are identified and repaired prior to equipment leaving facility.
3. 3. Clear and concise understanding of the fleets equipment and how to properly maintain the company standard.
4. 4. Capture and inspect all equipment at respective terminals during yard checks and monitoring.
5. 5. Ensure all company, EPA and Safety policies are compiled to meet local, state and federal standards.
6. 6. Accountable for all direct and indirect labor hours on a daily and weekly basis.
7. 7. Completes all repair orders in a timely manner, ensuring all labor and parts are charged to the appropriate unit.
8. 8. Return all unused parts to the parts room and does not abuse company tools.
9. 10. Responsible for the cleanliness of work area, keeping spills, grease and debris to a minimum.
10. 11. Ability to coach and communicate effectively with shop and driving staff.

ABILITIES/SKILLS REQUIRED

Must possess mechanical skills and aptitude for the position. Must be able to exhibit skills and knowledge through company pre-employment exam. Must be able to read and write English language and have some computer skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds and be able to stand for long hours. Must be able to work various shifts and days. Must be able to work in all types of climates including extreme hot and cold.
