Job summary

Marten Transport, Ltd. is seeking a Safety Lane Inspector to perform timely quality inspections on the tractor and trailer fleet, in alignment with Marten policy and DOT regulations.

The role requires identifying DOT issues, repairing CSA violations before equipment leaves the facility, and maintaining fleet equipment to company standards. Candidates should have mechanical skills, basic English literacy, and some computer skills.

Qualifications

• Must possess mechanical skills and aptitude for the position.
• Must be able to read and write English language and have some computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Identify D.O.T. issues on equipment Marten operates.
• Ensure CSA violations are identified and repaired prior to equipment leaving facility.
• Understand fleet equipment and maintain company standards.
• Capture and inspect equipment at terminals during yard checks and monitoring.
• Ensure adherence to company, EPA and Safety policies for local/state/federal standards.
• Track labor hours daily and weekly.
• Complete repair orders with accurate labor and parts charges.
• Return unused parts and safeguard tools.
• Maintain cleanliness of work area and minimize spills/grease.
• Coach and communicate effectively with shop and driving staff.
• Identify DOT issues on all equipment and ensure repairs before departure.

PURPOSE:

The Safety Lane Inspector furnishes quality inspections to the tractor and trailer fleet in a timely and efficient manner, while complying with Marten policy and procedure as well as DOT regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. 1. Ability to identify D.O.T. issues on any/all equipment Marten operates.
2. 2. Ensure C.S.A. violations are identified and repaired prior to equipment leaving facility.
3. 3. Clear and concise understanding of the fleets equipment and how to properly maintain the company standard.
4. 4. Capture and inspect all equipment at respective terminals during yard checks and monitoring.
5. 5. Ensure all company, EPA and Safety policies are compiled to meet local, state and federal standards.
6. 6. Accountable for all direct and indirect labor hours on a daily and weekly basis.
7. 7. Completes all repair orders in a timely manner, ensuring all labor and parts are charged to the appropriate unit.
8. 8. Return all unused parts to the parts room and does not abuse company tools.
9. 10. Responsible for the cleanliness of work area, keeping spills, grease and debris to a minimum.
10. 11. Ability to coach and communicate effectively with shop and driving staff.

ABILITIES/SKILLS REQUIRED:

Must possess mechanical skills and aptitude for the position. Must be able to exhibit skills and knowledge through company pre-employment exam. Must be able to read and write English language and have some computer skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds and be able to stand for long hours. Must be able to work various shifts and days. Must be able to work in all types of climates including extreme hot and cold.
