Turner Construction Company invites applications for a Safety Intern in Chicago. You will assist with implementing Building L.I.F.E. and safety programs on construction sites and in office locations, under supervision.

The role emphasizes identifying unsafe practices, coordinating safety duties, and supporting training, inspections, record-keeping, and meetings. Strong communication and a proactive attitude are essential for success in a collaborative construction environment.

Qualifications

• Enrolled and actively pursuing college degree in Safety/Engineering or related field; minimum 1 year completed.
• Basic knowledge of safety and environmental principles.
• Desire to work in construction management and to learn about construction industry.
• Professional and clear verbal and written communication skills.
• Proactive, eager to learn and able to work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

• Assist with implementing safety programs on site and in office.
• Assist with identifying and reporting safety violations and imminent danger.
• Coordinate safety duties for committees, preplanning and toolbox meetings.
• Assist with coordinating safety training and orientations.
• Review subcontractor safety programs for compliance with company policies.
• Maintain safety records (OSHA logs, JHA, training records).
• Assist with drug screening administration.
• Support preconstruction meetings and meeting documentation.
• Support inspections and develop inspection summaries.
