Description of Work

In this role, you will perform supervisory duties including establishing goals and timeframes, planning, assigning, monitoring work, approving leave, preparing performance evaluations (EPRs), conducting on-the-job training, resolving disputes, and implementing collective bargaining agreements for the day shift.

The work involves maintaining fire and sprinkler systems in Commonwealth-owned buildings across the Capitol Complex and outlying areas, ensuring activity and safety reports are complete and accurate, and overseeing maintenance of buildings and fire detection equipment. You will evaluate new fire and safety techniques and equipment, recommending updates to meet current standards.

Effective communication is essential as you establish and maintain relationships with agency staff, fire and safety representatives, Capitol Police, security personnel, service providers, contractors, and local fire departments.

Work Schedule and Additional Information

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 60-minute lunch
• Telework: Not available for this position
• Essential Employee: Required to report during emergencies and office closures
• Salary: Starting salary may be non-negotiable in some cases

Required Experience, Training & Eligibility

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements

• One year of experience as a Safety Inspector (Commonwealth or equivalent Federal job title), or
• Two years inspecting commercial, industrial, healthcare, or other buildings for compliance with safety codes, or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Conditions of Employment

You must possess a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.

Post-Employment Requirements

• Obtain a 40-Hour HAZWOPER License or HazMat Operations certification within the first year.
• Obtain an Asbestos Supervisor/Contractor License from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry within the first year.
• Obtain an Asbestos Inspector License from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry within the first year.
• Obtain a Confined Space Entrant, Attendant, and Supervisor Training Certificate within the first year.
