Job summary

Layton Construction seeks a Safety Director to proactively plan and direct the Company’s ESH program ensuring a safe, healthy, accident-free work environment across construction projects.

The role partners with executives and safety teams to foster a positive safety culture, ensuring regulatory compliance and effective risk management. Extensive field support and leadership are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental health & safety, safety management, construction or related field preferred.
• Minimum 15 years of direct commercial construction safety experience.
• Board Certified Safety Professional designation preferred (CSP, ASP, or CHST).
• OSHA 510 Certification obtained within the last 24 months.
• Thorough understanding of construction safety regulations, risk management, and workers' comp.
• Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
• Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation communication skills.
• Ability to delegate effectively and lead safety teams at director level.
• High integrity aligned with company values.

Responsibilities

• Champions safety programs and delivers predictable outcomes for teams and clients.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and enforce Constructing with Integrity.
• Report to VP ESH and support SBU leadership.
• Manage contractor selection process and CCIP knowledge.
• Lead incident investigations and root cause analysis.
• Plan and train employees in site safety practices.
• Oversee safety staff and compliance across locations.
• Conduct hazard assessments and analyze incident data for preventive actions.
• Lead safety systems implementation like Corrective Action Plan and Injury Management.
