SMS Shipbreaking, LLC is seeking a highly skilled Ship Cutter in Brownsville, TX to perform metal cutting aboard ships or in the dismantling yard. The role requires strict adherence to safety and cutting procedures and the ability to select appropriate methods for different scrap metals.

Candidates must pass a physical and drug screen and will work in an environment with heat, noise, and potential hazards while receiving paid holidays and life insurance, plus an hourly incentive based on tonnage.

Qualifications

• Must pass employee physical and drug screen.
• Experience operating handheld torches and performing cutting in yards or aboard vessels preferred.
• Familiarity with PPE and safe cutting procedures.

Responsibilities

• Cut scrap metal materials into specified sizes using a handheld torch.
• Inspect cutting equipment (torch and hoses) before use.
• Ensure cutting procedures prevent equipment damage and personal injury.
• Assess scrap metal types to determine cutting method.
• Maintain safe cutting practices and PPE usage.
• Inspect vessels/heavy equipment for safety before hot work.
