Job summary

Alpha-Baking-Co., Inc. is seeking a Safety Specialist to lead safety programs and ensure OSHA/EPA compliance across manufacturing sites. You will conduct inspections, coordinate training, and drive incident investigations to prevent recurring hazards.

The role requires strong communication, on-floor visibility (50%+), and collaboration with maintenance and supervisory teams. Travel within Chicagoland locations is expected; some overnight travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety or related field.
• 1–3 years of experience in safety roles within a manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA standards, machine safety, and hazard control methods.
• Exceptional attention to detail and ability to identify hazards before they become issues.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Requires strong presence on the production floor (≥50% time) and interaction with all staff.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety management systems.

Responsibilities

• Monitor daily manufacturing operations for OSHA, EPA, and company safety compliance.
• Conduct safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments across all shifts.
• Investigate workplace incidents, near misses, and equipment hazards; prepare reports and corrective actions.
• Schedule and coordinate annual safety training programs and emergency drills.
• Deliver safety training on lockout/tagout, machine guarding, PPE, and emergency response.
• Maintain safety documentation, including SDS records and compliance logs.
• Assist in ergonomic improvements and industrial hygiene practices.
• Collaborate with supervisors and maintenance to ensure safe equipment operation and preventive maintenance schedules.
• Actively participate in the Safety Committee and safety initiatives.
• Advise on safety topics and inspect premises for non-conformities.
• Stop unsafe acts or processes as needed.
• Occasional travel to other sites; home base in Chicagoland with regular travel.
• Flexible to support multiple shifts.
• Other duties as assigned.
