Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Maintain OSHA injury and illness records and coordinate regulatory reporting and documentation.
• Coordinate OSHA inspections and information requests with HR and management.
• Develop and maintain the Company’s safety training program and track completion.
• Lead investigations of injuries and incidents; identify root causes and preventive actions.
• Coordinate return-to-work and modified-duty activities with HR and management.
• Track safety metrics and provide management with trends and risks.
• Coordinate emergency preparedness activities and oversee safety equipment.

Job description

The Safety Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and administering the Company’s workplace safety programs and promoting a safe working environment across production, warehouse, laboratory, and other operational areas. This position maintains a hands‑on presence in the workplace, conducts safety inspections and audits, coordinates required safety training, manages OSHA recordkeeping and reporting, and partners with management and employees to identify hazards and implement corrective actions.

The Safety Coordinator serves as a primary resource for workplace safety and is expected to exercise sound judgment in evaluating safety risks, recommending appropriate corrective measures, and supporting compliance with applicable OSHA requirements and Company safety standards.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Oversee and administer the Company’s workplace safety programs, policies, procedures, and initiatives, with particular focus on maintaining safe practices within production and other operational areas.
• Maintain a regular presence on the production floor and in other work areas to observe operations, identify unsafe conditions or work practices, and provide guidance to employees and supervisors.
• Conduct routine workplace safety inspections, site audits, hazard assessments, and risk assessments; document findings and work with management to implement and track appropriate corrective actions.
• Monitor compliance with applicable OSHA requirements and Company safety policies and recommend changes to policies, procedures, equipment, or work practices when needed.
• Maintain required OSHA injury and illness records, including OSHA Forms 300, 301, and 300A, and coordinate required regulatory reporting, posting, and documentation.
• Coordinate OSHA inspections, inquiries, and information requests in partnership with Human Resources and Company management.
• Develop, coordinate, and maintain the Company’s safety training program, including identifying required training, conducting or arranging training, monitoring completion, and maintaining training records.
• Coordinate safety training and programs related to applicable workplace hazards, including hazard communication, PPE, chemical safety, lockout/tagout, machine guarding, powered industrial trucks, emergency response, and other relevant topics.
• Lead or coordinate investigations of workplace injuries, accidents, near misses, and other safety incidents; identify root causes and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
• Coordinate return-to-work and modified-duty activities in partnership with Human Resources and management and monitor workers’ compensation and injury trends for opportunities to reduce future incidents.
• Track safety incidents, audit findings, corrective actions, and other safety metrics and provide management with information regarding significant trends, risks, or areas requiring attention.
• Coordinate emergency preparedness activities, including emergency procedures and drills, and assist with oversight of safety and emergency equipment such as first-aid supplies, eyewash stations, AEDs, and fire extinguishers.
• Maintain accurate and organized safety documentation, including training records, inspection and audit results, incident investigations, workers’ compensation records, corrective actions, and regulatory documentation.
• Immediately address significant unsafe conditions or work practices and elevate serious safety concerns to appropriate management. When an imminent safety hazard exists, recommend or initiate a temporary stop to the affected work until the hazard can be appropriately evaluated and controlled.
• Stay current on applicable occupational safety regulations and best practices and recommend improvements to the Company’s safety programs and processes.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, Industrial Safety, or a related field and at least two (2) years of relevant occupational safety experience; OR at least four (4) years of progressively responsible occupational safety experience. Manufacturing, chemical, production, warehouse, or other industrial safety experience is strongly preferred.
• Working knowledge of OSHA General Industry regulations and workplace safety practices.
• Experience with OSHA recordkeeping and reporting, workplace safety audits and inspections, incident investigation, and corrective-action processes.
• Experience administering or supporting workers’ compensation claims and return-to-work activities preferred.
• Experience developing, coordinating, or delivering workplace safety training.
• Familiarity with manufacturing safety requirements such as hazard communication, chemical safety, PPE, lockout/tagout, machine guarding, and powered industrial trucks.
• OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification preferred or ability to obtain within a designated period after hire.
• Strong judgment, problem-solving, communication, organizational, and follow-through skills.
• Ability to work effectively with production employees, supervisors, managers, Human Resources, and Company leadership while appropriately addressing and escalating safety concerns.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn Company HR, training, and safety systems.

Physical Requirements:

• Regularly works in production, warehouse, laboratory, and office environments and must be able to safely access operational work areas.
• Must be able to regularly walk and stand while conducting safety inspections, audits, and investigations and occasionally bend, stoop, reach, and climb stairs as necessary.
• Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment.
• May be exposed to typical manufacturing conditions, including noise, moving equipment, chemicals, and varying temperatures, with appropriate safety controls and PPE.
