Job description

SUMMARY:

The Safety Coordinator's responsibility is to ensure that all employees follow all safety procedures, as well as taking a proactive approach of finding potential risks within the unit to provide a safe working environment for everyone. This individual is responsible for managing safety incidents with the management team. This individual will also be working with safety captains in their respective departments to give safety briefings to their teams.

ESSENTIAL DAILY FUNCTIONS:

· Complete daily department safety audits, with coaching, every shift. These audits are expected to be conducted outside of the normal daily tasks and done throughout the entire building.

· Exercise proactive intervention any time an actual or potential risk arises.

· Present pre-shift safety briefings, including recent incidents as examples, lessons learned, and the correct behaviors and/or procedures.

· Commend teams and individuals for continuing to adhere to safety policies and procedures.

· Complete end - of - shift reports including date, supervisor on duty, number of audits completed, including amount passed/failed, explanation if quota is not met, details of incidents or accidents that occurred and coaching, if applicable.

· Complete injury/accident reports timely, accurately and completely by filling out the forms and obtaining employee statements, photographs, and applicable signatures.

· Coordinate with Unit Safety Manager with next steps to address all safety concerns.

· Lead by example, while maintaining professionalism in all duties and communications.

· Satisfactorily perform the regular functions of your primary job.

· Regular, timely, and predictable attendance is required for this position.

· Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Proven change agent in culture of safety.

· Understanding of OSHA, DOT, and Workers' Comp laws preferred.

· Must have good knowledge of investigation procedures and root cause analysis.

· Excellent organizational and motivational skills.

· Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability.

· Strategic thinker with creativity and excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.

· Resilient self-starter who can act independently and learn quickly within a rapidly evolving environment.

· Ability to effectively collaborate with site operations, functional leaders, and external clients and vendors.

· Attention to detail, accuracy, and a strong commitment to business ethics.

This is a physically active position that will require the individual to be out on the production floor, in the office, on the dock, and in other areas as necessary. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, talk and/or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to handle or feel. The employee must also occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The temperature of the environment may fluctuate drastically from very cold to very warm temperatures. The noise level may range from moderate to very loud.
