POSITION: Safety Coordinator, 12-month, non-licensed

TYPE OF POSITION: 1.0 FTE, work hours may vary based on program needs

SALARY: $65,000 - $85,000

REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Operations

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Develop and Implement Safety Procedures and Practices:
    • Create and review emergency plans
    • Conduct regular shelter-in-place and active threat drills
    • Conduct safety audits
    • Ensure school and district compliance with required drills
    • Maintain and train on the use of Raptor and CrisisGo systems
    • Support creation and maintenance of safety policies and procedures, including student handbook and district policies
  2. Conduct Safety Training:
    • Train staff on active threat, evacuation, and reunification procedures
  3. Investigate Accidents and Incidents Related to Student Safety:
    • Gather information, interview witnesses, and prepare reports
  4. Coordinate Emergency Planning Committees:
    • Assist in planning and facilitate district Emergency Preparation Advisory Committee (EPAC) meetings
    • Participate in safety meetings with local agencies
  5. Promote a Culture of Safety:
    • Send safety messages to staff and students
    • Recognize and reward safe behavior
    • Manage safety materials on district website
  6. Building-Specific Safety:
    • Assess security of building entrances/exits
  7. Transportation Safety:
    • Conduct bus driver safety training focused on threats of violence
  8. Technology Safety:
    • Implement and enforce safe internet and social media use with building leaders
    • Support student online activity monitoring for safety concerns
    • Maintain district anonymous reporting system
  9. Student Safety:
    • Develop programs to prevent bullying, harassment, and violence
    • Collaborate with counselors and social workers on student mental health concerns
    • Investigate reports of student misconduct posing safety risks
    • Promote a positive, inclusive school climate
