Job summary

New-Indy Containerboard in Ontario, CA is seeking a Safety Coordinator to help the Safety Manager promote a strong safety culture, prevent workplace accidents, and ensure compliance with OSHA and related regulations at the Ontario Mill.

You will educate staff, perform safety audits, track observations, and participate in the Safety Committee. The role features a day shift with up to 50% travel and hourly pay of $30-$35.

Qualifications

• Familiarity with tools, machinery, and equipment in a manufacturing setting.

Responsibilities

• Educate supervisors, managers, and staff on safety standards and conduct training sessions.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA and federal/state regulations and conduct audits.
• Verify adherence to safety protocols and address non-compliance issues.
• Review safety procedures and recommend enhancements to improve safety.
• Act as back-up trainer for OSHA- and mill-required training.
• Collect and enter Safety Observation Cards.
• Enter safety work orders based on findings and concerns.
• Plan and execute projects to enhance workplace safety.
• Maintain safety equipment and supplies.

Job Location: Ontario Mill - Ontario, CA 91761, Position Type: Full Time, Education Level: High School Diploma or Equivalent, Salary Range: $30.00 - $35.00 Hourly, Travel Percentage: Up to 50%, Job Shift: Day, Job Category: Facilities, SUMMARY: The Safety Coordinator assists the Safety Manager in tasks and responsibilities related to health and safety at the mill, including promoting the safety culture, preventing workplace accidents, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Educate supervisors, managers, and other staff members on safety standards, conducting training sessions to ensure a thorough understanding of protocols and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and federal and state regulations, conducting regular audits and assessments to identify areas for improvement.
• Verify employees adhere to established safety protocols and procedures, taking corrective action to address non-compliance issues.
• Review existing safety procedures and recommend enhancements to optimize safety standards and practices.
• Act as back-up trainer for Safety Manager on OSHA- and mill-required training
• Collect and enter Safety Observation Cards
• Enter safety work orders based on findings and employee concerns/feedback
• Plan and execute projects to enhance workplace safety
• Ensure the availability and maintenance of safety equipment and supplies
• Actively participate in Safety Committee Meetings

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Pay Transparency: The starting hourly rate for this opportunity ranges from $30.00 - $35.00 per hour.
