The Safety Coordinator is an integral part of the Quality, Safety, Reliability and Transportation (QSTR) Team. This role is responsible for assisting the division and locations within with the execution and management of the safety programs and initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Work with management to ensure organization’s safety compliance
- Design, implement, and manage safety programs and opportunities for improvement with the Director of Safety
- Conduct site inspections and audits, facilitate regulatory agency visits
- Manage planning and preparedness for Emergency Action and Response at the sites
- Develop, conduct, and audit training, compliance, and on-the-job execution
- Participate in strategic and tactical planning and initiatives with management
- Work with Human Resources to manage workers’ compensation claims, return-to-work programs, and safety claim management
- Manage regular job risk assessments and hazard controls, including PPE assessments
- Conduct incident investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions
- Schedule and execute air, noise, and environmental sampling and analysis
- Prepare and communicate safety Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and reports
- Work with internal teams regarding customer and contractor management requirements
- Maintain safety records in various internal and external management information systems
- Maintain work area, equipment, and tools in a clean and organized manner; follow all Safety Guidelines
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education
- A high school diploma or GED is required; an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university in a related discipline such as Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) or Occupational Safety and Health (OSH), or related field, and/or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and/or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH). In the absence of a degree, directly related job experience serving in a safety role, with proven knowledge, may offset the degree requirement.
- Health and Safety Certifications (e.g., NIOSH, OSHA)
Experience & Skills
- At least 5+ years in health and safety experience in an industrial and manufacturing environment
- Experience with Serious Injury & Fatality programs (e.g., Work at Height, Arc Flash/Electrical, Material Handling, Equipment Operation)
- Extensive knowledge of occupational and environmental safety and health
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical, conceptual, and planning skills
- Attention to detail and self-motivation
- Technical aptitude with PC literacy (Windows, Microsoft Office, etc.)
- Valid driver’s license in good standing that meets company requirements
- Ability to pass criminal background check, drug screening, and E-verify
- Demonstrated care and concern for team members
- Ability to lead safety programs and training
- Proactive in safety communication and injury reporting
- Hazard identification and risk control skills
- Ability to liaise with regulatory agencies such as OSHA, EPA
Travel
Travel for this position will be approximately 25% - 50%.
