Job summary

C.W. Matthews Contracting Co., Inc. is seeking a Safety Coordinator to strengthen our Coastal Division's safety program across active projects. You will lead site safety inspections, coordinate with superintendents, and ensure OSHA compliance.

Ideal candidates have 2–5 years of construction safety experience or a 4-year degree with safety exposure; strong communication and travel ability are required; bilingual is a plus. We offer a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular jobsite safety inspections and observations
• Work closely with superintendents, foremen, and project teams to identify and correct potential hazards
• Help ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and applicable safety requirements
• Assist with safety orientations, toolbox talks, and employee training
• Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions and assist with corrective actions
• Maintain accurate safety documentation, reports, inspections, and records
• Partner with project leadership to develop and implement effective safety plans
• Monitor jobsite conditions and provide guidance on safe work practices
• Help promote a strong safety culture where employees feel comfortable speaking up about safety concerns
• Support ongoing safety initiatives, audits, and compliance efforts across the Coastal Division
• Travel between active project sites as needed

What We're Looking For

We're interested in candidates who have a strong foundation in construction safety and are ready to take the next step in their career.

Ideal qualifications include either:

• 2-5 years of construction safety experience, OR
• A 4-year degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Environmental Health & Safety, or a related field, along with at least 1 year of practical, real-world safety experience.

Additional experience in heavy civil construction, bridge construction, roadway, asphalt, utilities, sitework, or heavy highway construction is preferred, but it is not required. Candidates with safety experience in vertical construction, commercial construction, industrial construction, or other construction environments are encouraged to apply.

• Familiarity with DOT-related construction safety requirements
• Bilingual is a plus!
