Job summary

Surge Staffing is partnering with a Central Ohio transportation and logistics client to place a Safety & Compliance Manager on-site. You will drive DOT/regulatory compliance, fleet safety, driver qualification, and safety programs across fleet, yard, and warehouse operations.

The role requires hands-on leadership, data-driven analysis of ELD/telematics, and collaboration with operations and executives to reduce risk and improve safety culture.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience in transportation, logistics, or warehouse operations.
• At least 2 years of safety or compliance leadership experience.
• Experience with fleet safety and transportation regulatory compliance.
• Experience with ELD/telematics systems; Samsara preferred.
• Transportation management system experience; Ditat preferred.
• Strong OSHA and DOT safety knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Oversee fleet safety, DOT compliance, driver qualification, and regulatory programs.
• Monitor CSA scores, ISS ratings, MVR, PSP, and Clearinghouse compliance.
• Utilize ELD/telematics data to monitor driver safety and operational trends.
• Manage preventative maintenance, equipment repairs, vendor relationships, and fleet costs.
• Establish and maintain safety protocols for yard and trailer-pool operations.
• Oversee warehouse safety programs and OSHA compliance.
• Conduct incident investigations, root-cause analysis, safety audits, and corrective actions.
• Manage transportation and warehouse insurance claims.
• Support customer-specific safety audits and contractual compliance requirements.
• Develop safety KPIs and provide weekly and monthly reporting to leadership.

Safety & Compliance Manager | Central Ohio on-site

We are partnering with a growing transportation and logistics organization in Central Ohio to identify an experienced Safety & Compliance Manager to oversee safety, regulatory compliance, risk management, and operational safety across transportation, fleet, yard, and warehouse operations.

This is a hands‑on leadership opportunity for someone who understands the realities of DOT compliance, fleet safety, OSHA requirements, driver safety, warehouse operations, and claims management and can turn data and compliance requirements into practical operational improvements.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee fleet safety, DOT compliance, driver qualification, and regulatory programs
• Monitor CSA scores, ISS ratings, MVR, PSP, and Clearinghouse compliance
• Utilize ELD/telematics data to monitor driver safety and operational trends

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, IF Statements, and Conditional Formatting
• Strong communication, organization, problem‑solving, and multitasking skills
• Self‑starter who can work independently and collaborate effectively with operations and executive leadership

Location: Central Ohio / Marysville area

Schedule: Monday–Friday, typically 8:00 AM–5:00 PM

Travel: Approximately 5%

Education: High school diploma/GED required; degree in Transportation, Logistics, Supply Chain, or Safety Management preferred

This position reports to the Director of Fleet Operations and provides an opportunity to directly influence safety culture, regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and risk reduction across a growing logistics organization.
