Job Summary:

The Safety & Security Assistant Manager supports the leadership and day-to-day operations of the Artis—Naples Safety & Security Department and serves as the first-line supervisor of Safety & Security Officers. This position helps ensure a safe and secure environment for patrons, artists, team members, artwork, facilities, and organizational assets across Artis—Naples’ cultural campus and properties, including The Baker Museum.

The Assistant Manager provides operational leadership for daily activities, performances, exhibitions, and special events and assumes responsibility for departmental operations in the absence of the Safety & Security Director and the Safety & Security Manager.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise, direct, coach, and evaluate Safety & Security Officers and promote accountability, professionalism, and consistent performance.
• Coordinate security operations for performances, exhibitions, special events, and daily activities, including staffing, post assignments, access control, and incident response.
• Assist with emergency preparedness, response, drills, workplace safety initiatives, and the identification and mitigation of safety and security risks.
• Monitor and support electronic security systems, including access control, video surveillance, alarms, intercoms, and related physical security technologies.
• Conduct or assist with investigations involving theft, threats, workplace violence, suspicious activity, policy violations, accidents, and other safety or security incidents.
• Review incident reports and departmental documentation for accuracy, completeness, appropriate follow-up, and recurring concerns.
• Assist in developing and delivering initial, in-service, remedial, and emergency-response training.
• Maintain effective working relationships with law enforcement, fire-rescue, emergency management, and other public-safety partners.
• Serve as a departmental representative on the Artis—Naples Safety Committee.
• Exercise sound independent judgment, maintain confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries, and develop practical solutions to operational and personnel issues.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in criminal justice, public safety, occupational health and safety, safety management, emergency management, security management, business administration, or a related field preferred. Relevant professional experience may substitute for postsecondary education.
• Minimum five years of progressively responsible experience in security, law enforcement, public safety, emergency services, military service, occupational safety, or a related field, including prior supervisory or management experience.
• Experience with physical security technologies, including access control and video surveillance.
• Knowledge of emergency preparedness, incident response, workplace violence prevention, occupational safety, fire/life safety, and security risk mitigation.
• Strong leadership, problem-solving, written and verbal communication, interpersonal, conflict-resolution, and de-escalation skills.
• Strong computer proficiency and ability to learn security, incident-reporting, scheduling, and other organizational systems.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, manage competing priorities, and make timely decisions in routine and emergency situations.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, occasional overnight hours, weekends, holidays, performances, and special events.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This is an active, campus-based position requiring regular walking and standing, including extended periods during performances and events; navigating stairs and ramps; working indoors and outdoors in varying conditions; and occasionally lifting or moving items weighing up to 25 pounds. Work occurs throughout performance venues, museum and administrative spaces, the Security Control Room, parking and loading areas, and other Artis—Naples locations.
