Job summary

Tailwind Applied Sciences is seeking an HSE Advisor to oversee occupational HSE activities across operations, ensuring compliance with policies, standards and regulatory requirements. The role involves occasional manual labor and mentoring drivers and managers, and split time between office and field environments.

The ideal candidate will lead risk management, incident investigations, and training, while promoting a 24/7 safety culture and collaborating with the HSE Manager to develop procedures

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1-3 years experience in an HSE role or related field.
  • Possess a valid state-issued driver’s license and be eligible to drive a Company vehicle.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to present and report clearly.
  • Willingness to travel regularly across the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and refine operational procedures to support regulatory compliance.

Job description

The HSE Advisor will be responsible for the occupational HSE-related activities for the Company’s operational areas. This position also requires ensuring HSE risks are managed according to Company policies, standards and processes, industry best practices and standards, and in compliance with regulatory requirements. This position involves occasional manual labor functions and duties. The HSE Advisor works closely with and assists other employees and supports designated operational areas.

This position will also require personal skills to mentor and train drivers and managers. A successful candidate in this position must be able to work with the operational team in the development of operational procedures to facilitate compliance with these regulations.

This position works under the direction of the HSE Manager.

Detailed Description
  • Comply with all Company and customer Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies, rules, practices, and guidelines
  • Display continuous preparation in the event of a compliance review
  • Understand applicable OSHA regulations
  • Monitor, maintain, and communicate the status of compliance of the regulations to the management of the company
  • Demonstrate technical proficiency in HSE management tools such as risk management, risk assessment, incident investigation and documentation techniques
  • Identify and communicate best practices across all areas of operations
  • Provide HSE support, coaching and training at all levels including promoting Company’s commitment to a 24/7 safety culture for all workers
  • Lead initiatives to promote visible and proactive management commitment and employee engagement in HSE activities
  • Review existing HSE training plans and specific training needs, provide training, as appropriate, and/or facilitate visiting specialist trainers
  • Support the implementation and achievement of HSE objectives and performance measures by participation in HSE action teams
  • Represent the Company and our values with integrity while maintaining the highest ethical and legal standards with all interactions
  • Adhere to the Company’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Job Requirements
  • Highly organized, possess the ability to multi-task and be detail oriented
  • Skilled at identifying, recording, and reporting findings
  • Work with an emphasis on safety for themselves and others, including coworkers and third parties, while wearing any required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all designated times
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to conduct effective presentations and written report preparation
  • Ability to speak, write and listen in a manner that clarifies issues, promotes closure and delivers information in a clear and concise manner and facilitates good decision-making
  • Must be able to work closely with others and under time‑sensitive deadlines including potential emergency response situations
  • Exhibit strong problem‑solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrates technical proficiency in Microsoft 365, and be able to leverage advanced software features of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Able to work independently or as part of a team
  • Willing to work extended schedules that may include days or nights, as well as weekends and holidays in different weather conditions
  • Requires bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, and crawling, walking on uneven surfaces, and climbing equipment ladders or stairs throughout the work shift
  • Must be available and willing to travel on a regular basis to district, to various locations around the US, occasionally requiring extended travel to field locations and/or overnight stay(s) outside normal office area
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times and protect Company proprietary information in an appropriate manner
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Possess 1-3 years experience in HSE role or related experience
  • Must have and maintain valid state‑issued driver’s license, be eligible to drive a Company vehicle and meet the requirements of the Company’s vehicle program, policy and/or guidelines
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
  • Prior military service
  • Experience in the construction industry

The HSE Advisor must work with an emphasis on individual safety and safety for others, including coworkers and third parties. This position will split time between an office environment and working in a warehouse or field setting, which may require working outdoors for long periods of time in all types of weather conditions typical of the area where the job is located, including dust, humidity, sleet, snow, rain, mud, cold, heat, wind, and other inclement weather. Working conditions for this position may involve exposure to varying outdoor conditions, including chemicals, gases, noise, dampness, fumes, radiation, and heights.
