Job summary

Patterson-UTI is seeking an HSE Advisor in Williston, ND to lead safety and environmental compliance across field operations, conduct inspections, and develop policies and procedures that align with company standards and regulatory requirements.

You will investigate accidents, set reduction goals, identify training needs, conduct regular safety trainings and drills, manage drug-testing programs (DOT and non-DOT), and coordinate with operations, vendors and authorities.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, API, RRC, EPA, and DOE reporting procedures.
  • Knowledge of safety, training and environmental concepts, standards and practices.
  • Thorough knowledge of accident investigation and loss control techniques.
  • Working knowledge of the oil well servicing industry and related equipment.
  • Proficiency in conflict resolution and employee engagement.
  • Ability to develop programs and present to employee groups.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct safety and environmental assessments and inspections to promote compliance with regulations and company policies.
  • Develop, implement and communicate safety and environmental policies for field operations.
  • Provide expertise in accident investigation and review boards to identify causes and corrective actions.
  • Recommend accident reduction goals and strategies based on available reports and statistics.
  • Identify training needs and evaluate programs; conduct regular safety training sessions.
  • Ensure compliance with drug screening policies including DOT FMCSA and non-DOT testing.
  • Maintain communication with operations management, vendors, institutions and agencies.
  • Audit training efforts for compliance with company guidelines; conduct drills.
  • Perform other duties as required by supervisor.

Job Description
  • Conducts safety and environmental assessments and inspection of records, equipment, and facilities to promote compliance with safety regulations and recordkeeping requirements as established by the Company and/or local, state or federal laws.
  • Develops, implements, and communicates Company safety and environmental policies and procedures in all areas of field operations.
  • Provides expertise in accident investigation and review boards to assist in identifying the cause and corrective measures necessary to prevent recurrence.
  • Recommends accident reduction goals and strategies from an analysis of available reports and statistics.
  • Assists in identifying training needs for the district. Evaluates those training programs in place and assists in implementation of new programs.
  • Develops, conducts, and supports regularly scheduled safety training sessions to enhance safety‑awareness and promote safe work habits.
  • Ensures compliance with the Company’s drug screening policies including DOT FMCSA and non‑DOT drug and alcohol testing programs.
  • Establishes and maintains a line of communication with operations management, customer vendors, educational institutions, professional organizations and applicable governmental agencies.
  • Audits the training efforts of District HSE personnel for compliance with Company guidelines.
  • Conducts training sessions on a scheduled basis to ensure proper and adequate trained workforce. Conducts drills to ensure understanding and comprehension of training.
  • Performs and assumes other duties and responsibilities as may be required by immediate supervisor.
Job Requirements
  • An understanding of all applicable government laws, regulations and reporting procedures such as OSHA, D.O.T., A.P.I., R.R.C., E.P.A. and D.O.E.
  • Knowledge of the industry’s safety, training and environmental concepts, standards and practices.
  • A thorough knowledge of the techniques of accident investigation and loss control.
  • A working knowledge of the oil well servicing industry and related equipment, materials and technology.
  • Proficient in effective conflict resolution and fostering positive employee engagement.
  • A capability of developing programs and making presentations to employee groups.
  • A knowledge of and ability to use Work Planning and Review Position Definition and Performance Review Systems.
  • An understanding of basic management concepts, including Training, Goal Setting, Employee Selection, Benefits, Motivation, Communication, Delegation and Organization.
  • Ability to understand and speak English at a level of proficiency allowing employee to issue, receive and respond to both safety and operations‑related directions in English.
Minimum Qualifications
  • H.S. Diploma or GED (Required)
  • One year experience in an HSE role or related experience
  • Valid state‑issued driver’s License
Preferred Qualifications
  • Four‑year college degree
  • OHST, SMS, ASP, GSP, CSP Licenses/Certifications
Additional Details

This position requires the person to work in both office locations and outdoors in all types of weather conditions, including precipitation, cold/heat, high wind, and turbulent conditions. The HSE Advisor will be regularly exposed to the typical conditions of the local area where the drilling operations and rigs are located. This position involves occasional manual labor functions and duties. The HSE Advisor must work with an emphasis on safety for themselves and others including coworkers and third parties. They must be able to work closely with others and under time‑sensitive deadlines including potential emergency response situations. They must be willing to work extended schedules that will include working days; and occasionally nights, weekends and holidays.
