Job summary

Centro de la Familia de Utah seeks an Bus Aide Substitute to assist the driver, supervise children, and ensure safety on bus routes. You will manage sign-in/out, count children, and follow posted procedures to keep all riders safe and engaged.

The role emphasizes a calm, respectful environment, working with special needs children under IFSPs/IEPs, and maintaining cleanliness. Training is required before starting duties.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Completion of 4 hours of training required before starting bus duties.
• Entry-level position: no prior education or experience required.
• High School Diploma or GED is highly desirable.
• Food Handler’s Permit.
• Children with special needs.
• Bilingual in Spanish and English is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Bus Driver in keeping children safe and engaged while on the bus.
• Ensure accurate sign-in and sign-out on the Daily Bus Sign In/Sign Out form; submit logs weekly.
• Use seat harnesses and load/unload children following safety procedures.
• Maintain accountability; release children only to authorized individuals; do final route check.
• Count children on arrival and verify all are accounted for before unloading.
• Perform a visual bus check and Post Trip Inspection before moving the bus.
• Foster a warm, respectful environment; promote positive interactions with children.
• Address disciplinary issues calmly without yelling or threats.
• Model clear speech and proper language; speak with appropriate voice levels.
• Assist with learning activities for special needs children per IFSPs/IEPs.
• Maintain bus cleanliness and sanitation per Transportation Manual.
• Complete incident reports and submit to Family Service Specialist.
• Know emergency procedures and location of equipment; confidentiality of family matters.
