Job summary

Dominican University is seeking a part-time Sacred Spaces Facilitator to assist with capturing and archiving sacred spaces across the Chicago area. You will help create digital tours, manage assets, and conduct scholarly research within a small team at the McGreal Center for Dominican Historical Studies.

Responsibilities include on-site footage, webpage creation, and collaboration with community representatives. This onsite role supports a grant-funded project through May 2028.

Qualifications

• Willingness to learn and troubleshoot VR software, cameras, and drones.

Responsibilities

• Assist in capturing digital footage of interiors and exteriors with drones and panorama gear.
• Create digital tours using Pano2VR and embed content into pages.
• Develop WordPress tour webpages and edit landing page video.
• Research spaces and build scholarly bibliographies using Zotero.
• Identify new sites, liaise with community representatives.
• Support digital preservation planning for generated assets.

POSITION TITLE: Sacred Spaces Facilitator

DEPARTMENT: McGreal Center

REPORTS TO: Director

PRIMARY PURPOSE/POSITION SUMMARY

The Sacred Spaces project at Dominican University seeks to preserve and digitally archive architectural spaces of the Dominican family across the United States, and other culturally and religiously significant spaces in the Chicago area. This project takes an innovative approach to historic preservation by creating interactive 360 degree captures of significant sacred spaces using panorama and drone photography. The Sacred Spaces Facilitator will assist in all areas of the project including researching sites of interest, onsite digital capture, tour creation,web posting, and digital asset management. The Sacred Spaces Facilitator will join a small team at the McGreal Center for Dominican Historical Studies who all collaborate on planning, troubleshooting, and undertaking scholarly research for the project. JOB COMPONENTS/PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist in capturing digital footage of interiors and exteriors of sacred spaces using drones, panorama cameras, and phone cameras
• Create digital tours of spaces using Pano2VR software to build panoramas and embed content
• Create webpages for individual tours on WordPress site, including editing landing page video
• Conduct research on individual spaces and communities, build scholarly bibliographies for website using Zotero
• Assist in identifying new sites of interest, corresponding with representatives of communities
• Assist Program Coordinator with developing digital preservation plan for generated assets

COMPETENCIES: (Required knowledge, skills, abilities)

• Background and/or training in library science, programming, photography, history, and/or museums
• Demonstrated interest in digital exhibitions or archives, digital humanities, and/or digital curation
• Willingness to learn and troubleshoot complex VR software, camera equipment, and drone photography
• Self-starting attitude
• Comfort with troubleshooting, using software documentation to address issues
• Interest in photography, architecture, and/or religious communities preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Ability to spend long durations of the workday sitting at a desk and working on a computer

SALARY AND FLSA STATUS

• Salary: $25.00/hour
• FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly, Part-time (15-20 hours per week)

BENEFITS

This is a fully onsite position at the McGreal Center on at Dominican University’s River Forest campus, and will require some driving in Chicago area This position is funded through May 2028 by a generous grant from the Driehaus Foundation.
