Job summary

Center for Public Partnerships & Research is seeking an academic aide to assist students with disabilities at the University of Kansas. Responsibilities include serving as a laboratory aide, assisting with exams, and facilitating computer navigation. A minimum of 1 year experience using various computer programs is required. This position is hourly/non-exempt and student employees are not eligible for remote work unless exceptions are made. Applicants must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours during the semester.

Position Overview

Job Description

The primary responsibility is to serve as an academic aide to assist students with disabilities in labs or classrooms.

Duties Include

• Serve as a laboratory aide; note-taking in the classroom; proctoring, scribing, and reading exams; physically manipulating objects; and assisting with live computer navigation and program usage for the student.
• Communication with supervisor at the Student Access Center about challenges or concerns.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• At least 1 year of experience using a variety of computer programs as evidenced by application materials.

Preferred Qualifications

• Comfortable learning and using new computer programs or lab equipment, as evidenced by application materials and/or interview.
• Eligible for Federal Work Study.

Position Requirements

During the semester term, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods, the student hourly must have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or be pre‑enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or be enrolled in summer session or be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments do not apply to student hourly appointments.

Employment Conditions

• Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by unit leadership and HR.
• This is an hourly/non‑exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non‑exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position concurrently.
