Job summary

Blackforest Veterinary Clinic seeks a skilled Registered Veterinary Technician in Colorado Springs to join a growing hospital. You will work with veterinarians, assistants, and front desk staff to provide compassionate medical care and a positive client experience.

The RVT will perform nursing procedures, assist in exams, surgeries, radiography, anesthesia, and dentistry, while educating clients and keeping patients safe and comfortable.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program.
• Current RVT credential (or state equivalent) in good standing, or eligibility to obtain it before start date.
• Strong clinical skills including venipuncture, catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, and radiography.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to stay calm, organized, and focused in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Restrain and handle patients safely using low-stress and fear-free techniques.
• Obtain patient histories, vital signs, weights, and records for exams and procedures.
• Assist veterinarians during examinations, treatments, and procedures.
• Place IV catheters, draw blood, and collect samples (urine, fecal, cytology, etc.).
• Run and interpret in-house diagnostics, including bloodwork, urinalysis, fecal tests, and cytology.
• Take diagnostic-quality radiographs and assist with other imaging as needed.
• Prepare, induce, and monitor patients under anesthesia; maintain anesthetic records.
• Assist in surgery, including prep, instrument/pack prep, and recovery monitoring.
• Perform dental prophylaxis, including scaling, polishing, and dental radiographs.
• Administer medications, vaccines, and fluids; calculate dosages.
• Monitor hospitalized patients and provide nursing care, including pain assessment.
• Educate clients on home care, medications, nutrition, and preventive care.
• Maintain a clean, safe treatment area and sterilize instruments.
